I'll be getting mine tomorrow. The unit arrived in Chicago Christmas eve per UPS. The worst part of this season living in a cold climate, is not being able to power it on until the internal temp. equalizes to the house (~4-6 hours). rolleyes.gif

You gonna have all those projectors? You have to start a new 4K shoot out thread, so we won't be asking you about different comparisons every hour.

what I might do is clear the 1st & 2 post of the current thread that has the older info and start with new info on the current models. so the first page would have all the info on the comparisons, etc.

I didn't think I would still have my RS55 by now, but glad I still have it. it will be interesting to have a 55 / 57 mini-shootout. I have a brand new lamp I'll use on the 55 so we have an even baseline.

I know what e-shift 2 looks like, so i'm curious to see 1 vs. 3.

I'm glad you are going to do all that; I feel less pressure to do so now smile.gif

(I have a new lamp that I could put in my RS55 as well, but I'm giving it to my friend with my RS55 once I'm done some comparisons with the RS57).
I'm supposed to have mine Friday too.

I guess it will be. That's gonna be one extra long thread if everything gets updated every year. This forum is lucky to have your contributions throughout the year

Rich - Could I be your BFF?? tongue.gif What a nice "gift" for your buddy!!

My 57 is out for delivery so if all holds with my UPS driver schedule I expect the box about 2-3pm CST. smile.gif

kevin, I have the 55, Planar 8130, Sharp 30K and Sony 1000. The 600 belongs to Mike @ AVS and the 57 is not mine, but will get a chance to check it out for a few days.

you know the 55 so well so i'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the 57. my main interest would be to find an excellent OOTB baseline (D65/2.2/R709 + good sat tracking) and see how e-shift 3 looks vs 1.

There's a few scenes in oblivion that should give the new iris a workout. I was told to check out the original spiderman movie around the 29:00 mark for iris activity.

edit: @ cischico - wow looks like a fun weekend!!!

Jason also has my VW600ES, so he has a whole smorgasbord of projectors to compare. I think Jason may have to add onto the house just for projector storage purposes. smile.gif

That's awesome.

Except that what we want on an RS57's owner thread is "wow my JVC looks amazing..."

...we don't need no "JVC looks good, not as good as the Sony" on this thread! biggrin.gif

(Which is what I'd expect from such a comparison).

Wow… I'm jealous (but also genuinely happy for you especially based on our long history!). I will definitely be doing that tomorrow and will report back the best CP's although everything I hear and based on past let downs, I'm not expecting anything but undersaturation… But… maybe we'll get a 2nd Xmas gift this year! smile.gif

To 2nd Blee's sentiments… I'm very much looking forward to your opinions as well (especially hoping 3D has improved to acceptable levels)!

Merry Xmas bud!

Update…. Doorbell (per wife)… it's HERE!! SaWEET!! biggrin.gif

Time to crack it open and start the necessary warming process!! smile.gif

Well maybe this bodes well for me actually getting my projector by tomorrow.

( LOL who am I kidding? I have easily the most notoriously bad luck with electronics. Something will go wrong with this purchase is just a question of what.)

So who plans to actually be testing out his projector tonight?

Sounds like you can't wait, krichter.
A report on the Intelligent Lens Aperture is paramount, young man! But I'm also quite curious about the Clear Black feature.

In terms of someone reviewing the DI, one needs to have some context to what a good DI looks like. If someone does post what they think of the DI please post what other projectors they've owned or tested extensively that had a good DI. These would be projectors from Sony, Sim2, and Planar/Runco.

And I say this because there are other brands out there that have decent DI's, but not at the level of something from the brands aforementioned. For instance, when I checked out the BenQ W5000 and BenQ W20000, Epson 6500UB and Epson 8100, I thought their DI performance was actually pretty good. But after owning a Planar PD8150 and a Runco LS-1 and then demo'ing a Sony HW50ES there is a clear and stark difference in performance. Practically invisible is a good way to describe them, whereas the ones mentioned earlier were decent, but you could tell every minute or so when something odd shifted in the picture which told you something in the image was clearly changing. You never really got that sense with the Planar/Runco or Sony. The image always felt rock solid as if the projector truly had that much contrast natively.

Jason suggested Elysium and being my first DI in the 12+ PJ's I've owned I'll leave the expertise to him and will only report my impressions if my reaction is…

Geof & Jon provided me a comprehensive checklist to go thru in the first 3.99999999999 hours on the lamp to determine if it stays or if it goes (back), so my priority is that first (i.e. - uniformity (both white/grey fld), convergence, light corners, aperture testing etc…)

I received my rs57 roughly 2 hrs ago. It is at home warming up while I am out shopping with the wife (not my idea). I have owned a Epson 1080, 1080ub, 8100, 8350 and the last one I had was a 8500ub. I then moved onto the Jvc rs45 and rs46. I would certainly not consider myself an expert on DIs as the Epsons didn't have what I call a great DI.

On a different note, do folks with eshift usually l leave the eshift on, at least when watching blu rays and other hidef quality sources? I only watch blu rays and play games on ps4/xbone so all of my source material will be hidef and I'd really prefer to leave the eshift on unless it's one of those sort of settings that looks good sometimes and not so good the rest of the time.

My RS57 is installed. Very scary moment. I set it up on a table first. Everything looked good. I mounted it on the ceiling and adjusted the focus, zoom and shift. I couldn't get an image from either hdmi1 or hdmi2. It just showed "No input". I tried 4 different cables and 4 different sources, but no change. I turned it off and back on and no change. Only when I unplugged it and plugged it back in did it start working properly. I hope this doesn't happen to anybody else, but if so, you'll know what to do and not waste an hour trying to figure what went wrong.

Good news - the picture is terrific. I am coming from an RS40 (now for sale). The great news is that the convergence is perfect!. I can't see even a quarter pixel anywhere (center and all corners). The not so good news is that I am only getting 575 Measured ANSI Lumens (9 point measurement). I was getting 680 from my RS40 when I measured it after 19 hours.

I have a Lumagen 2021 and will be doing some basic calibration in the morning (Chromapure) though I know I'll have to repeat it as the bulb settles in. I'm curious about the color saturation - my RS40 was under saturated on every picture setting on 3 colors, though less than 5% on each.

More in the morning - I am going to enjoy it tonight!

There was a question on my lumens measurement so others could compare. I used a "Lux to Lumens" spreadsheet that another forum member supplied.

I will take other measurements today based on suggestions earlier in this thread, but these are the details:

Mode: Natural
Brightness, Color, etc: default (0)
Lamp: Low
eshift: Default (On)
Aperture: Auto
Distance from Screen: 190"
Screen: 1.78
Diagonal: 102" (actually 100", but adjusted for some overscan)
9 point lux measurements:
200 233 182
198 232 187
182 215 178

ANSI Average Lux: 201
Measured ANSI Lumens: 575
Measured Peak Lumens: 665

What is interesting is that my RS40 had a very similar profile with regard to lux (left, center, right), except that the left side had the lower lux measurements. My PJ is ceiling mounted, so my "left" would be a "right" if not upside down

Aww Kev that sucks. Sorry to see your 57's "aura's" white balance is off. Can see it clearly in the 1st 3 pics. Way too yellow. Are you going to keep it and make do? biggrin.gif

Good ole Halogen lighting! Keeping my fingers crossed it's a keeper. smile.gif

About to install my new $150 20' power cable that I never installed with my RS55 (was too lazy to rip out the ceiling panels and rout the power away from the video). Then I'll put the mount back on a fire this puppy up! wink.gif

Naperville, eh? Would you ever consider giving a demo? What is the size and type of screen? I'm going to use an AT screen.
