I have the DLA-RS57 and the video is all garbled with and without HDMI input.
Problem occurred upon first power on with direct connection from HTPC.
I've tried the following:
Factory Reset (a couple of times)
Unplug and wait 15 minutes after normal power down.
Unplug and wait 30 minutes after normal power down.
Various combinations of HDMI 1 and HDMI 2
Pictures of my Issue:
EDIT:
It wasn't locking up at first but it is now. Nothing I do clears it up
. My issue is worst case scenario from what I gathered in the owners thread for the X500/X700.

I don't understand, where is the COM port setting in the pj? The problem has something to do with the revised process of firmware update. In the 1211 FW update instructions it says to skip to pg.9 if you've already done the first update, which I have (with the same computer, cord, Flashmagik). When I go back and do all the steps prior to pg.9 the computer communicates with the pj on COM3, no problem. Just when I get to pg.9 something is lost in the translation (or there is some assumption that I'm not making correctly).
Did anyone get a "Communication Error" when trying to install the 2nd FW update? What did you do to resolve.
Since the projector is still communicating on COM 3 it is probably something lost in translation. You could try different com ports to see if something changed.
I have come from a Cineversum Blackwing 3 (based on JVC RS20) to the DreamVision Yunzi +3 (based on the JVC X900) and I had big issues exactly like everyone else here.
I had the weird split screen thing plus no signal blue screen. I run the new firmware R1211.
On my previous projector I had HDMI dropouts that was 100% fixed by adding one of those HDMI booster cables at the end. When I setup the new projector, I kept it on/installed. While mucking around with these lockups I noticed wriggling the cable around at the input sometimes helped. Like it wasn't getting a strong grip connection.
I then decided to take out the HDMI booster and connect my long HDMI cable direct.
Wola. All issues are gone. I mean all of them. I can even send 4K2K directly from my Oppo's. No problem. Even spin dialed my input selector on the Marantz AVR (SR7008). No problem. Everything is now fixed.
So I just want to highlight that the cables seem to be a issue and a fix as well. What worked before doesn't mean it will work again. Lucky for me it was as easy as removing a small cable out of the chain.
I have a friend that has the X500 (with these issues as well). I told him about my solution and he tried a bunch of those cheap HDMI connector ends. He found one that got a strong grip on the input and his issues went away as well.
Maybe those guys who are still having problems and don't want to re-run their cables could try those connectors as well. To me it seams the JVC's are fussy this year with a good strong input connection.
Maybe, Just maybe it could explain why some JVC's work and others didn't.
Can you provide a link to specifically what you're talking about?
HDMI is such garbage...forced upon us by multibillion dollar studios that don't want some punk kids taking a buck from them. "Piracy is not a victimless crime" my eye...neither are HDMI sync issues that make some products almost unusable. But, hey, at least we have a new spec that didn't fix the biggest problem with the old spec...the sloppy connectors! Interesting that DVI, which had screw in connectors was "upgraded" to one that wallows around in the hole and the RCA connectors that Component used are STILL IN USE IN HIGH END AUDIO, with zero problems. Another case of change for change sake, and progress for the sake of driving sales.

You know. Those cheap nasty connectors. He found a couple that worked. It just had to have a snug / strong grip connection.
Taking the signal booster off mine and putting my main cable directly into the input is now far better. It is hard to pull out now. Very strong grip. I'm using a 10 meter (sorry I don't use feet) Audio Quest cable.
I agree with your statement on HDMI. Also like to add that it pisses me off that I will eventually have to upgrade the projector and AVR because of a stupid HDMI standard.
Thanks for the link, I think I may already have some of these for a previous tight install, I'll give them a try. I also am not enthusiastic about buying a 40ft. run of premium cable as I don't usually put much stock in it, but I would if the connectors fit tightly.
Does anyone reading this have an HDMI cable that is very snug in the pj connections on both ends?
Accell. I have used them for years now and have NEVER had an issue. Currently using two of them with my X700 and have YET to have a single synch issue.

In he link above is a closeup pic of this HDMI adaptor. It clearly shows two tension prongs inside...is this normal? I just wonder if this is why it holds tighter and works better. This should all be spec'd out by the worthless HDMI.org people shouldn't it? I'm gonna get a few and try it.
I've tried the HDMI locking cable from Accell (with tension prongs), it loosense after you pull it out about twice...but again, they make some nice cash off of the idea that it will work forever, it does lock up tight but you have to "adjust" the tensioners with a needle.
Maybe I'm being dense here. Where are the tension prongs on the adaptor at the link? I have very occasional dropouts in my long HDMI run to my projector (not a JVC) so I'm looking at answers to have good clear connection.
I really think the connection is the key. I have made no software change to any of my equipment. Just the minor hardware change of getting rid of the HDMI booster cable. Mine now fits rock solid. It has no sideways or up and down movement on the projector input at all. Also got to give a good tug to remove.
For 9 days now not one issue. I had 3 lockups in my first three days of owning prior to this. Last night I had my projector on for 6 hours. I was doing calibrations and switching players and sources heaps (at least 50 times, probably more). Everything worked fantastic.
40' active HDMI (one we carry) is the longest I have used with a Sony VW600, Sony VW1100, JVC RS45 and DPI Mvision Cine 1000 LED. Worked well with all four of these projectors, using 2D, 3d and 4K.
They are a cable company that most don't know about but I've been using them for well over 8 years now without a single hiccup, even with long runs, 3D and 4K video signals. They are definitely my go to for HDMI cables.

That's not a bad price for a 40' active cable, assuming it works. I'm pretty sure its not the cable, but if it is...sign me up. I'm going to talk with Jason in the morning about the FW update #2, and then try the tighter fitting connectors. I assume one of these will fix the problem.

I don't think this would help with the guys having HDMI problems.
I found that it was the contact part that needs to be real tight.
That product (even tho it is cool) just stops it from falling out.
I was lucky. Taking my pigtail HDMI cable (booster) off got me a strong tight connection.
My mate with the X500 had lots of different little connectors (I had some as well). We found some fitted real tight. Others slopped around. It was a real hit or miss. With the ones that fitted tight we got no more projector lockups or faults.
It is almost like the JVC HDMI input is not deep enough. Cable doesn't fit in flush.
Really JVC dropped the ball with this connection. No firmware is going to fix 100%. It is a hardware issue.
I installed the R1211.1 FW on my X700 and found the video would occasionally distort when switching between an Oppo 103D and TiVo Roameo through a Sony STR-DA5700ES receiver.
IMG_2688.JPG 882k .JPG file
IMG_2689.JPG 1246k .JPG file. So I called JVC and they suggested to feed each source directly into the projector bypassing the receiver. In this scenario the video would be perfect. I repeated switching sources and the video consistently worked fine. Even if the receiver is the culprit, I can't live without a switcher. By the way, I made sure the receiver passes the HDMI signal with no processing (direct in to out connection), but this did not solve the problem. The second recommendation by JVC was to use HDMI 2 input on the projector. I've done this for only one evening and it worked fine, but more time is needed to truly determine if this is a solution. And if it is, what's wrong with HDMI 1 input?
By the way, every time the video would distort, the projector would make this noise as if it was trying to sync up, but when I manually switched sources into the projector bypassing the receiver, the noise disappeared. The noise is a mechanical sound that I suspected was the aperture opening and closing so I disabled the feature by manually keeping the aperture at full open. This was of no help. Then I disabled the e-shift feature and this reduced the noise significantly. But I'm curious if anyone knows for sure what is making this mechanical noise and if it is normal with e-shift enabled? I haven't tried leaving e-shift off to verify if indeed this solves the distorted video problem At this point I'm using the THX default setting with e-shift on and using HDMI 2. By the way, I can't see any difference with and without e-shift, and I have a 110" screen.
This leads me to another question - has anyone used the DVDO Quick6 switcher with any success? I would think that this device should resolve HDMI handshake issues if this is the root cause of the various symptoms I'm reading in this thread.
sr-the only sound I've ever heard from the JVC is the iris, and its only when I'm in the menu clamping down the manual iris. As for the Quick6, there's a cheaper one called the Gefen HDMI detective that holds the EDID but doesn't switch HDMIs, ideally, with it you wouldn't need a new switcher. Check on the main thread for X500 for more info...there's someone on here that's using one.
AVS shipping department helped me get the Ver.2 FW installed and I've put just a few hours on it but with no problems so far. Hopefully, this will be my last post on the "HDMI Problems" thread (one can hope).
E-shift definitely adds it's own humming noise that is noticeable when on low lamp. I haven't tried testing on high lamp to discern if the fan noise masks e-shift hum.
I have tested this a few times in the past and in my case, eshift adds no audible noise, in low lamp, in a dead silent room. I must either be lucky or suffering from hearing loss (just kidding, i had my hearing tested a year ago and the results are above average for a 40 yo male...).
And my eshift works, the effect is clearly visible if i move close to the screen.
