JVC releases their projectors under two divisions; professional (Procision) and consumer (Reference Series). Both projectors are the same except for the model number and what color ring is around the lens (gold versus silver).

Yes, the only "step up" is the RS6710 which is the same projector as both of the two aforementioned except it gets an extra quality control check before it gets released from the factory.

Does the 6710 have a longer warranty as well, or is that just the 4910?

Straight from the JVC press release:

The DLA-RS6710 also includes a spare lamp and comes with a five-year warranty versus a three-year warranty on the DLA-X900R and DLA-RS67.

The rings have changed. I think Mike told me but I don't remember, I think he said both are the same color now or something like that.

Then they must all be gold now. The last two widescreen review issues have had the new JVC ad on the back cover with the projector having a gold ring.

Though, looking at the CEDIA photos they still have two distinct colored rings:

Unless they made the decision recently it looks like they're still two colors?

I don't know and I really don't care. I just don't remember who in the industry told me they were all the same color now. As for the ad in WSR, that projector is full of dirt, has flowers growing out of it, and is being attacked by a humming bird.
