Is it brighter for the projector to be closer to the screen and have the zoom all the out, or further from the screen and have it zoomed all the way in?

Right now I am using the Panasonic in the middle of the room, about 12 feet away from the screen, I have the zoom almost all the way out. Is this maximum brightness? Thanks,

closer = brighter
farther = contrast

but, my understanding is that you need to be close to either extreme to get a noticeable improvement. that is, placing it in the middle doesn't give you the best of both, it gives you neither
