The CEDIA Expo 2014 in coming up 10-13 September at the convention center in Denver, CO. In recent years the AVS Forum, with an industry sponsor, has arranged for a get together/party on Friday evening. However, we don't know if a specific AVS Forum party will be offered again this year, or not. In past years, I noticed that many of those attending the show were flying out late Friday afternoon or evening and were not able to attended the Friday evening AVS Forum party. CEDIA itself has a free "After Hours Party" (more info HERE) on Thursday (Sept. 11th) evening in the convention center that was well attended last year, and you may want to sign up to attend it when you register to attend the Expo this year. I suggest we plan on getting the AVS Forum members together at a table(s) during the After Hours party in additional to whatever else is set up for Friday evening.

For those wanting to attend CEDIA Expo just to go to the manufacturers booths, you will need to register (see link below) to attend by creating a user name and password then filling out your info: name, address, etc. There are several pages of training classes offered, but they all cost money so just don't check off on anything on these pages. There is a page where you must select or enter answers for a few questions, such as what area of the show are interested in (e.g., home theater). After all of these pages are completed there is a page that lets you sign up to attend certain of the evening activities. There is a welcome reception on Wed. evening and the big "After Hours Party" Thursday evening, both of these are free to attend. As I suggest above for the AVS Forum members attended the CEDIA Expo, your can sign up for the After Hours Party on Thursday evening, even if there is an offsite AVS Forum specific party organized for Friday evening. Finally, the fee for attending the show will be listed as $45 but you can avoid this by entering a valid four digit coupon code. Several of the manufacturers with exhibits offer the codes for those wanting to attended just the trade floor exhibits. I did a quick Google search and it turned up one already available for this year's CEDIA Expo from Leviton. This code is: 3685

The CEIDA Expo web site to register for the show is: http://expo.cedia.net/register-plan/registration

I'll be at CEDIA but like 'the many' you noted, I will fly home early Fri evening. I get in Wed afternoon, though, so if there's a get-together Wed night (and of course Thurs night), I could make it.

I'm probably in for the Friday gig. My only request is a place that isn't so loud. In years past they chose places with a lot going on (music or movies) and most of the people are there to meet and talk which makes it really hard because everyone is screaming over everything else so that people can hear them.

Last year the Friday AVS party was at a Jazz club reserved just for AVS forum members and the music didn't start until perhaps a hour into the party. Scott Wilkinson came prepared and played along with the band.

CEDIA does have a social hour Wed. evening (I signed up when I registered), but I'm not certain I'll be able to make that as I'll be arriving Wed. and I haven't got my airline reservations yet.

I really enjoyed last years party/location and did not find it too loud to talk with others.

Its a pleasure not to have to make multiple posts convincing you to attend. smile.gif Be sure to bring your new GF. I am not going to pay for an escort for you.

Warning. Given the amount of free food Toe consumed last year, all are advised to come early before Toe eats everything in sight. smile.gif

LOL!! biggrin.gif I very much appreciate you getting me down there last year! With as much food as I consumed, I am surprised I did not get handed a bill as I left! tongue.gif Hope to bring the GF along since she is definitely the better half between the two of us. Looking forward to meeting you Mark as well as Kris, Ron and other AVS members (would love to meet Krichter1 and Zombie!) that I have enjoyed talking with over the years. smile.gif

One motive for attempting to get the AVS forum members together at the After Hours Party on Thur. evening is to share info on interesting HT stuff we have seen during the first day on the trade floor. Beyond the major projector manufacturers (i.e., Sony, JVC, Epson, DP, Runco, etc.) there are usually some interesting products I am unaware of until I hear about them at the Friday evening AVS party or until someone posts about them after we get back home.

Very good point. I would very much love to get together Thurs pm to hear about the most exciting things people have seen, to be able on Friday to check out the ones I have missed.

There is no guarantee that there will be a formal party sponsored by AV Science Forum. As has been published yesterday, the forum has been sold again (actually it was a bit ago) and is now owned by a another company whose niche is owning forums and profiting from them.

Regardless, forum members will get together at other parties if not at an official AV Science forum and for dinners out as a group where all are invited. Scott W will post if there will be a AV Science forum sponsored party, he doesn't know yet.

It will be interesting to see if the new owners can make this forum profitable for them or whether it will be sold again.

I would think that a few of the Fourms sponsors would be interested in chipping in for a party. The problem last year was that the party was not promoted and that is one of the reasons why the turnout was not great. I would hope that if there is a party it would be announced on all sections of the forum. Last year I just found out about it by chance.

Last year monoprice.com was a co-sponsor (a great group of guys). Hopefully Scott W. will be able to arrange for another AVS party this year with an industry sponsor to help pick up the costs.

Read the list of the present sponsors. There are few and some are very small. I doubt any are rolling in money that they wish to basically throw away on a no return advertisement. Of course, if the fee were small enough then why not. It boils down to the new owner ponying up basically to continue a tradition. Even then it would buy him nothing.

I was thinking that Monoprice and Oppo and possibly Dolby might be interested in cosponsoring the party. Two of the three companies got there start through support from AVS. IF Scott can get support he must get the new forum owners to inform members with posts all over the forum giving the sponsors publicity for their support. As we know the AVS parties at one time were packed with people.
This could happen again if it is done right.

I don'y even know if getting party sponsors is one of Scott's job responsibilities. When I ask him in another thread whether there would be a Cedia party given the new owners he responded he would ask and report back. In any event in past years I have organised official forum dinners (blessed by the then owners) for all those wishing to attend. Normally we have done these on two nights. I have no idea whether I will be attending this year for a variety or reasons including the care I must render my deteriorating dog. Its too much for my wife to do alone given the size of my dog and the need to continually lift her. We are getting a cart for her rear legs one of which is now totally non functional.

Good point Mark. I've moved the material about how to attend CEDIA Expo to Post #1 of this thread.

FYI - I've started a similar thread on the under $3K projector forum.
