The answer is No One Knows how much or when and it is ridiculous to waste ones life discussing it.

The next how much will be implemented indicia will be the issuance of a 4K Bluray standard. If and when it happens I suspect it will go beyond the revised VOLUNTARY UHD standard issued by Gary Shapiro and the rest of the CEA for UHD displays. That stand is simply 3840 x 2160, 16/9 or higher, upscaling form 1080p to 3840 x 2160, at least 8 bit, at least one HDMI in, and at least one HDMI that will accept 3840 x 2160 in at 24, 30, and 60 fps and protected by HDCP 2.2 or its equivalent and to do 265. This is not much and didn't even take the protection by HDCP 2.2 by the horns allowing possible proprietary schemes by one display manufacturers and one or more content providers. No uniformity or standardization meaning consumers could be screwed by not being able to get some content.

Whatever leap forward the 4K Bluray standard may make in areas such as bit length, color space, chroma sub sampling, audio, it I suspect will be backwards compatible with sets meeting the CEA standard.

How long after will displays take to catch up, sources (discs) that aren't technological failures to hit the market. Will the catch up be in stages? And it is fairly clear that almost all sets meeting the trade association standard won't be able to reproduce the best the any 4K Bluray standard will set the bar at.
