JVC DLA RS60 used buy

Hi,

I am looking at a used JVC DLA-RS60. Price seems to good to be true. Before I ask the seller for more details, are there known issues with this flagship that I should be looking out for? It's only an hour drive for me to the seller's address.

It's for a big all-black space with a big CIH screen (Seymour AV 130" width in 2,35/1 or 100" in 16/9) and we don't care about 3D. The Sony VW500/600ES would do nicely, but pricewise it's not an option right now.

Is there an owner's thread here? Cannot find it.

Thanks.

The 60 was not very bright, especially compared to current JVC's. I would not pair it with a 130" wide 2.35 Seymour AV screen.

It had issues which is why you saw one so cheap, especially with being bright enough, I'd give it a pass most likely and go for a more recent JVC, like the RS-49.

I would say that it depends on the price you're getting. If he's asking more than $2000 I'd pass. I'd actually prefer to own something like the RS45 or RS46 over the RS60. The newer generations JVCs bring a lot of noticeable improvements to the game. Better brightness, 3D, motion, are your biggest improvements.

The price is 1,200 euro. It says 2 years of warranty, which I believe is all what you get for a new one in EU. Very odd, did he just buy it then? I am going to be very careful. If he ever responds to my email. And the ad is 3 months old... Maybe it's to good to be true.

We saw the Sony VW 500ES on demo (10' width 2.35/1 screen) late last year, browsing for stuff for the HT we were planning (now building). Though it was just a normal Bluray playing (Bond, Casion Royal), it was so much more film-like than all the other beamers on show (JVC, Panasonic, Epson, Benq and another Sony all between 2K and 5K euros). My wife fully agreed (no typo). Now, if a 5K euro projector would approach that image, than that would do. But if not, then the plan is to get an affordable machine, maybe used, and save up for the big one. Budget would be round 1K euro (+/- 300 euro)

I used to think video was not that important that more than 3K euro for a PJ would be spent. We actually went to the demo to see the new Epson. But you know it when you see "it". We were awestruck. But that price...

The HT should be ready for the projector by the year end, so there is still time. Some more affordable alternative to the Sony might surface?

I would pass, unless it was free, because you will have to buy another projector, if you plan on using a 130" wide Seymour AV screen. As I said above the 60 will never be able to light it up.

Okay, thanks.

The seller has yet to respond, so it's funny business anyway.

Suggestions for a 1K (+/- 300) temporary PJ with sufficient output, new or used?

You need a projector with lens memory. I think at that price point, you might be able to find a used RS45.
