Any bets on JVC ... LED or 4K announcement ?

I think it will be a tough sales year if JVC doesn't do either real 4K or LED

I would think LED would help the most, since these awful bulbs should have gone bye-bye years ago

any odds ??? ... opinions ??? ... of something big being announced in next 3 weeks

They won't do LEDs because they are a step backwards in light output. There are no other major benefits other than longevity to the LEDs. My guess is laser, 4K native chips or a simple refresh of their 1080p eshift line. Most current JVC owners will not buy a new unit if this is just a refresh year.

I'd love a pj with a different light source as long as the contrast ratio and everything else stays the same or improves. Bulb based is annoying. I'll take a different light source over true 4k without hesitation.

give me the led/laser light source, that delivers the same native contrast as the x35(or better), and instead of a DI, use dynamic dimming to get the same results without the noise or delay of shutting a physical iris.

4k will be nice, when I have 4k content. until then, instant on/off, no dimming over time, and fades to black that actually fade all the way to 'off' will give be a lot more enjoyment than upscaling my blurays into a non-native resolution

Sales guys can't wait. August is a slow time in the HT industry for projector MSRP $3000 and above sales. Cheaper projectors do sell in anticipation of the fall sports schedule. After Cedia, preorders and orders (depending on projected shipping dates) start pouring in.

Since I plan on buying a new PJ once a year, I would prefer more lumens to a 4K upgrade. A new light source could mean that. When 4 k movies become widely available, 4k will be welcome in my house.

According to Ron Jones (a good friend), JVC is not holding a Cedia press conference this year. Although there are a variety of reasons that could be possible for why they are not doing it this year, Ron's best guess is that they are not introducing a native UHD chip machine this year nor any alternative to bulb light source machine. Modest improvements over last year's machines are expected though.

Blee (also a good friend) thinks the JVC machines are already GREAT and that implicitly its OK to maintain the status quo. If there are no significant improvements, flip sales will be hurt immensely severely impacting sales by JVC and their resellers.

this is like the movie groundhog day.

here is the historical order.

Lot's of questions for sales staff and 'local engineers' (not japan). Most of it cannot be answered beyond the general spec sheets that are released.

many attendees proclaim 'best projector ever'

2 months pass by.

Cine4home finally does a tear down, many technical questions are answered with test results that everyone trusts.

2 months pass by.

Product finally becomes available. new owners proclaim 'best projector ever'

balance is once again restored in the front projector universe.

heavy speculation on Cedia 2015 ensues.

rinse

repeat.

For the most part, projectors do get better every year - via incremental improvement. So " new owners proclaim 'best projector ever' " isn't necessarily not true. It's just not leaps and bounds better from year to year. Someone with a 3 or 4 year old projector will see improvements making an upgrade worthwhile.

This has been true for as long as I've been in home theater.

You missed out the bit after the second '2 months pass by' where new owners start bitching about some issue and how they will never buy from that company again.

The other thing is how going from last year's model after it's calibration has drifted and it's lamp has dimmed, to a brand new model is possibly a bigger jump than it would be if the old model was recalibrated with a fresh lamp in it. At least when I (finally) replace my X35 there should be a considerable improvement with it's replacement, even though I keep it calibrated.

Won't stop me reading the threads though, just these days I have a healthy dose of cynicism having seen it so many times before.

I think Zombie is dead on with his analysis. When the first JVC 3D projectors were released three or four years ago a few new owners proclaimed the 3D was impeccable. A few weeks later the general consensus here was that the $500 Acer blew the JVC away when it came to 3D. The new (at the time) $10,000 Sony 3D projector met the same fate. A honeymoon period for new owners is predictable and happens here fairly often, although I believe many are now loathe to get too excited about their latest toy until they've spent some serious time with it. One thing is for sure -- at this time every year the excitement and hype machine gets ratcheted up again. However, I will admit I do feel change is in the air and either this year or next we're going to experience a transition to 4K and a laser light source and those two things taken together, will be what I consider relatively major.

Quote from Kelvin 1965S: "You missed out the bit after the second '2 months pass by' where new owners start bitching about some issue and how they will never buy from that company again." True and pretty funny.

I thought it would be this year but I am not too sure. The problem is it takes lots of money to develop new projectors and the demand is limited. Without programs to watch and 4K Blu-Ray I am not sure that there is enough incentive to move. The problem JVC has is Sony with 3 4k units in different price ranges. Next week should be interesting.

My question would be "Will JVC risk going with both a 4k chip and bulb alternative in the same year?" If the answer is no and they don't do anything this year, then it could be two years before both are implemented in the same pj.

Unconfirmed reports said, although the source of my information is reliable, that the JVC for 2015 will have a single model 4K resolution to be flirting digit sales figures, while current series DLA-X500, DLA-X700, DLA-X900, will be removed.
Something similar will be displaced in the camcorder's withdrawal from there.
If so, I think the market will lose a very strong opponent.
There's nothing left of him to wait for developments.
