Projector Advice

Moving into a new house and our buyer of current house wants our projector (Epson 9500UB). Looking for suggestions in the $2500 a $4000 range to be is d in a dedicated media room. Usage will be a mix of TV, Sports, Movies, and quite a bit of gaming. Trying to narrow down my short list. Two local shops here in North Dallas have suggested the Sony ES50. Looks like that is from 2012 though? Or do I have my models wrong? I've seen several posts on the Epson 3050. Any suggestions? Seems like there are always 3 or 4 go to projectors in a price range.

Your local dealer has made an excellent suggestion, but you're right as that's the 2012 model. The current model, which is VERY similar to the Sony VPL-HW50ES is the Sony VPL-HW55ES. It's an excellent all-around performer that will suit you well for sports, movies, games, and TV viewing. Excellent brightness, contrast, decent motion, and low input lag for video games. Don't bother with the Epson model, the Sony model is the best all around performer in the under $4000 home theater projector market.

If you aren't tied down with your local dealer or want to be sure your local dealer is giving you a competitive price, I'd suggest calling AVScience (one of the forum's sponsors) as they always have the most competitive pricing out there and customer service unlike any other dealer. Both Mike and Craig are salesmen for AVScience and post quite frequently on the forum. They know projectors better than most dealers and I'm sure would love talking to you about this projector or any other projector they may also want to recommend.
