Went and demo'd one of the newer DLP projectors by Davis and whilst the image was nice...... I kept getting these flash's of colour.

I also started to get motion sickness from watching the picture and had to leave. For the next few hours both me and my wifes eyes were sore. Theres no way I could watch that projector. Does DILA have the same problems ?

Sorry. You're sensitive to rainbowing of 1-chip DLP systems. With 1-chip DLP, at any given time, there's only one color being projected. To get white, they have to project Red, Green, Blue one at a time very quickly. Some people have very fast perception and will see these colors instead of seeing white.

D-ILA uses 3 panels with one color each and all panels are active all the time, so no color flashing. 3-chip DLP also does not have this problem.

Just curious, were you watching PAL based DVD? I remeber there was a thread last year when people thought the rainbow was worse on PAL based material on the davis since it syncs its color wheel at a slow refresh..

Yes! Im in Australia, so it was a PAL DVD. Whilst I was really impressed with the blacks etc (Dark Scenes in Terminator 2), every few seconds there would be this flash/streak of rainbow somewhere on the screen, which would really make you jump. Even besides that, the whole picture was very tiring to view.

Maybe, as you say, its due to the refresh rate. However, besides the colour wheel problem, Im also thinking that since CRT's pixels dont switch on and off imediately.. (ie. they glow for a little while), that they are less sensative to refresh rate.

Infact, the whole interlace principle was founded from long persistance CRT displays used in early CAD where the pixel would remain lit for a second or two, giving time for the slow computers to redraw the screen.

Still, it seems like 1-chip DLP is flawed. I'll see if I can find a DILA somewhere around here. Have bulb costs come down for those yet ?
