Projector will be G10, G11, or G15. Screen size will be approximately 72" horizontal.

Kelly,

If you use an inverted JVC D-ILA, without a Panamorph,
then the centerline of the lens should be at the same
height as the top of your screen.

Note - this height is independent of the throw distance.

Please note, that if you are projecting 16:9 aspect ratio
images by letterboxing the native 4:3 aspect ratio D-ILA;
the lens aligns with the top of what would be the 4:3 screen.

If you are planning on using a Panamorph, then the window is
set higher since the Panamorph will cause a slightly downward
throw. A rule of thumb is about 5" drop for every 10' of throw -
but use the calculator at the Cygnus Imaging website to get
accurate values. [http://www.cgns.com]

I would like to put a small window in the wall between my unfinished basement and the new finished basement for a projector. Currently, I am planning the theater around one of the DILA units. The distance from this rear wall to the screen is approximately 13 - 15 feet (have not decided on location for motorized screen).

Where should I locate the window with respect to the ceiling? The room has a height of just over 7 feet.

If this has been covered before, I apologize - what should I search on?

Thanks,
Kelly

Hello Kelly,

You should be able to find that information on the projector company website. Projector have different throw distance. It depend of a lots of things: zoom capability, screen desire size, type of lens. It is impossible to give you an exact answer if you don't have the name and model of the projector you want to buy. As a rule of thumbs, bigger your screen will be, closer to the ceiling your projector.

Good luck! and send us pictures of the final result http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
