I went to the "Stereophile High-End Show" in NYC in 1995 or whenever they were last in town, and I caught my first glimpse of HDTV, albeit the NHK analog system, it was worth the $35.00 admission price.

I don't plan on going since most of the gadgets there are outrageously priced and the lines are ridiculously long, but it showcases only the best so there you have it.

The last time one exhibitor had free popcorn which isn't so bad.

I'm planning on attending because my wife and I are their that weekend to see some shows. From the info I've received, it looks like it started out as a audio show a few years ago, and now is incorporating HT. From the vendor list, it's pretty obvious that it's roots are in audio.

Not too happy to hear about long lines, but I suspect that will be OK because my wife will probably give me the day at the show, while she melts down the charge cards on Madison Avenue. Man, this could be an expensive weekend! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've been to the previous Stereophile shows in NYC, San Francisco, L.A., and Chicago. It was overwhelmingly audio oriented in the beginning but has increasingly taken on a home theater bent. Indeed, I saw my first demos of HDTV at a Stereophile show. It's definitely worth going to if you have any interest in audio at all, and there should be enough HT demos to keep videophiles fairly content.

Do you have more info on the show (i.e. location, time, price, etc.). I'd like to go.

I'm afraid to go! I just completed my system and if I go, I just know I'll want something better. I think I need to wait at least 6 mos before accepting the fact that all of my new equipment is allready outdated!
