Update:

I bought the RUIPRO HDMI Fiber Cable (33 feet, 10 meters) Friday last week and got it today Tuesday. That's a remarkable delivery-time from Hong Kong through DHL (although that particular delivery option seems to have expired at Amazon.com now). Plugged it in and it works on 4k 60Hz, no issues. Returned the copper cable ?? thank you Stephan at The Rock for excellent service.

Now next step is custom gamma curve...

But I need to wait for the guy that did the professional calibration on my JVC to return from vacation to confirm if was done on the BT2020 colorspace or the Rec 790. Or can I tell from the settings myself?

Does anyone know if JVC will replace a lens that has slight focus uniformity issue? I swear it has developed over time (sure it wasn't present at install Time new) although not sure this is possible. Menu not as clear and crisp on left as on right. Confirmed on different screens. I've had it a little over a year and only have 150 hours on It.

Sorry for duplicate post Tapatalk App dos this occasionally

Are you using much horizontal or vertical lens shift? If it is not the same as when you installed, I would look and make sure nothing is on the lens.

I feel silly asking this after i already ordered the 2.35:1 screen - do i need an anamorphic lense, or am i ok to just let it project black bars above and below and let black velvet soak it up?

Yes, quite a lot of vertical, and with one screen a lot of horizontal. I have centered the horizontal and it's still there. In front only the UH480 lens on the sled moved to park. Exists with lens in path as well. I will clean the PJ lens and see what that yields?

Thoughts?

I will have to dismount from ceiling (dreading this as it took so long to get it and the lens just right) inevitably to finally confirm anyway if after cleaning still exists. If it's there after dismounting then off it goes to JVC anyway and if not there after dismount something with install (lens shift or geometry somehow of throw)

This isn't true of everyone but I think most people now are just zooming. I've got zero problems with the black bar overlap on my dark blue walls outside my velvet screen trim. The only thing I noticed was 'lens light leak' on the left and right side of the projected image when viewing 1.78:1 content on the 2.35:1 screen. This is something that you can only see with extremely dark content after your eyes have time to adjust so I really wouldn't worry about it. When I switched from a Panasonic AE8000 to a RS46 years ago the lens light leak was noticeable right away. I intended to make vertical masking panels but I eventually stopped noticing it. I was hoping the RS400 would be better in this regard, it is not...but I still have not bothered to make vertical masking panels. CIH is definitely the way to go especially if you have height challenges in your room.

Something also sort of related: Another nice thing about this projector is it allows quite a bit of masking range so for switching aspect ratio movies (like Nolan films, Star Trek Into Darkness 3D, etc) you can mask it down to 2.35:1 and see zero content spill onto your walls. Nolan and many other directors shot widescreen safe so cropping that content leaves us CIH users with a nice big beautiful image and being none the wiser to 'missing content'.

Hi guys.

Has anyone managed to force a 48hz refresh rate with this projector? I'm trying but I always get a black screen. I dont know if the receiver is the one capping the refresh rate (yamaha rx860). I can only use 23hz 24hz 50hz~60hz. I really want to try 2D 48hz.

Thanks!

Take the A-lens out of the light path and then look at the image.

JVC DLA-RS400U 3D compatibility Question

I recently purchased the JVC DLA-RS400U and have 4 sets of 3D glasses from my Panasonic 55" plasma.
What emitter from jvc do I need and will the emitter work with my Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU ACTIVE/RF glasses?
BTW what an upgrade from my epson 1080, the picture jumps off the screen!

So I have a really dumb question...does the JVC Cal software replace the Spyder software ? Or are those used separately ?

Separate. The Spyder software installs the drivers JVC Calibration needs, but that's it. I've got a link in my sig to a quickstart guide for you.

Ah ok, just for the drivers, but the actual calibration doesn't use the Spyder software, just the JVC Cal, hence the Express Spyder is good enough.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out!

I can slide the lens on the transport out of the path into the parked position. The issue still exists. It exists with the lens in place and parked.

What about when you are using very little lens shift? Have you looked at the lens to make sure nothing is on it?

I just measured: The center is 160 centimeters from the ground (63 inches)
The Spyder needs to be positioned such that its shadow (from the projector light) falls on the centre of the screen. Assuming the projector is ceiling-mounted, it means the Spyder needs to be mounted quite a bit higher than the centre of the screen.

This is highly discussed topic in this forum, and the RS500/RS600 forum.

See these 2 posts I have made previously, which provides links to the information you're looking for.

Basically, you need to do a good JVC Autocalibration, followed by creating a Custom Gamma Curve for HDR. Here are my posts to get you started:

First Post

Second Post

If you're completely unfamiliar with all of this, it will take some time and effort to get up to speed. The other option is to hire a professional calibrator, such as ChadB, to do the work for you.

Good luck!

Should eshift just be used for 4K sources. Eshifting 1080p looks fuzzy

It has been noted by some people including this reviewer who thought e-shift made 1080 content look blurry (pics in the review). I'm not real certain I saw any negatives at a normal viewing distance, but I do shut e-shift off for 1080 content because I don't like the buzzing noise it makes. I can hear it when I'm watching TV-type content at low volume.

I don't see any any issues from my viewing chair letting the 400 upscale to 4k'ish with E-shift on and I don't hear any buzzing. Blurays look fantastic.

Maybe it's a unit to unit type thing.

It's definitely there. Some people just notice it more than others. I'm really sensitive to noise so I noticed the e-shift sound immediately. I also immediately noticed the Auto Iris and CMD right away too. (All got shut off right away.)

If you think you can't hear e-shift and you just hear the fan, you'd probably be pretty surprised to know that what you're actually hearing is the e-shift. Shut it off and you'll hear the change right away.

Visually, I don't really notice the e-shift either way from normal viewing distance for 1080, but a foot or two away from the screen and I see it.

Obviously, there is a pretty big difference between 1080 e-shift off and 4K e-shift on. So that's nice.

The focus may need some re-adjustment between the two zoom ratios, but is stored as part of the memory setting.

Don't just take my word. Read the JVC manual, which says "The Focus, Zoom, and Shift settings can be saved or retrieved, so you can switch easily to a different aspect ratio (screen size) according to the image"
