JVC RS400U keeps shutting off??

Any idea what could be wrong, the projector was working great, just today it keeps shutting itself off. Right after showing DILA it goes into shut down. There''s nothing blocking the vents, good ventilation, the filter is clean, I eve tried it with all cables (other than power) pulled out, but same thing. It's connected to a good UPS power supply (I also tried connecting it to a different plug but same thing). Lamp hours are about 500hrs. Any idea would be appreciated , it shuts down before even allowing me to go into menu

Are the LED lights on the projector blinking combinations of amber and red? This is where you see what the error codes are.

I have a RS400 arriving Friday to replace a busted RS45. I've been using a Darbee Darblet with the RS45 and would like to keep using it with the new RS400 for 1080p bluray content.

I understand I will need to run 2 HDMI cables to the RS400, one for 4K and one for 1080p with the Darbee processing. Problem is I only have 2 HDMI outs on my Marantz 8802a and I'm using a second Optoma projector for any cable/game playing through the second HDMI out.

I also have a Oppo 203 arriving with the projector and could have the 203 dedicated to 4K and continue using my PS3 for bluray with the Darbee in between the PS3 and AVR. This would elimate having to run 2 cables to the RS400 but seems a waste of the 203 not using it for bluray plaback.

Or, maybe a HDMI splitter/switch to split the 1080p Darbee HDMI out to both projectors after the AVR? However, I've had limited success with splitter/switches.

I guess I could just drop the Darbee, but really like the results.

Anyone else running a similar setup and have a solution?

You're going to end up dropping the Darbee or just using it for one source.

I've got my Darbee connected to my regular Blu-ray player before the receiver. I'd like it on all HD sources, and I tried connecting it to the second output on the Denon X6300 but it didn't like that. I don't think its reasonably possible, unfortunately.

I have pretty similar setup. Darbee and RS400 + Denon AVR X3300 (+ tv's stealing outputs) .. I ended up using HDFury's uhd 4k splitter pro, works fine in this setup. (Tv and Darbee goes trough splitter)

I think it might be a video board connection problem, because that is what I was told about my similar problem with my JVC X950RB. It just went in a week ago for repair and should hopefully have it back by next Friday at the latest. It played great for the first 2 weeks and then it would shut itself down on the startup. I could see the bulb light up and hear the iris move but then the lense closed and got the flashing lights. I came here and was told to try removing the bulb from the projector and then place it back into the projector. As it might not of been sitting properly for it to stay lit. That didn't do anything and over the past few months has gotten even worse. I could eventually get the projector working after unplugging the power and plug it back in, after 15+ tries. So I would suggest calling JVC and send it in for repair

Here's the video of my projector that I sent JVC and was told of board issue.

Thanks, good to know that splitter will work.

You removed it because you preferred the results or because of difficulty getting it to work in the set up?

Nope starts green, then flashes red as it starts shut down, then solid red after shut down is complete

I removed it because I did not see the benefits of the Darbee on my 2016 RS400 like I did on 2008 Sony VW60, which the JVC replaced. I did lots of comparisons before I came to that conclusion.

I got the RS400 installed but could not get a picture with the Darbee in the chain... had to remove it to get a image. I have a first gen Darbee (clear case), maybe the HDMI spec is too old to work with this newer projector? I tried eshift with 1080p bluray, but no matter how I changed the settings, I found the picture a little blurry... seen this mentioned from other owners as well.

I am using oppo 203 and JVC X5000. When I connect the oppo direct to JVC there is no display just have audio. I had done reading and it is related to the HDMI cable is not able to carry the signal. To work around it, I had connect the oppo to my Yamaha A3050 AVR than output from the AVR to JVC. This works without issue. Recently I had bought from HDfury a "linker" which is self powered HDMI repeater. Again I try to connect oppo 203 to the linker than to JVC. Same issue, there is no display but audio is working ok. Any one has any idea to what I can do ?

So this is a huge thread and I tried searching - any generally agreed upon finer settings? I can do all the basics myself with test discs (Contrast, Brightness, etc), but is there a consensus on preferred gamma, color profile, dynamic iris setting, and coarse greyscale adjustments?

Dynamic iris: auto 2
color: custom 1 is very close to perfect
Gamma should be done with a meter.

For HD, the RS400 looks pretty great on its own. I ran with Cinema in Low Lamp with CMD off and Dynamic Iris off for everything and was really happy (I bumped to high lamp for 3D). When you start getting into UHD, I highly suggest looking at these three posts as they'll distill about a months worth of serious reading to about an hour or so:

If you're going to be watching 4K I would encourage you to create a custom gamma curve. It makes a huge difference.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I had this exact same thing happen after I mistakenly sent an electric charge from the Receiver through the HDMI cable to the projector. I sent it in for repairs and the verdict was that the mobo was fried. Had to replace it. I didn’t get mine from a dealer so it costed me almost $2,000 to fix. Ugh, I’m getting sick all over again, just thinking about it. lol

wreelsw,
Sorry for the noob question, but how did you send an electric charge thru the HDMI cable to the projector?

In short, because I'm a bone head. The long story is I was taking pictures of my screen position, in prep for making an order for a Dark Energy screen laminate and noticed that it was off-centered. So I went to move it and because I didn't have it mounted properly (I thought it was mounted properly) it came off the wall and knocked off my center channel speaker, which was mounted via drywall anchors, directly below it. So I got the screen mounted properly and then tried to figure out how I was going to remount my center channel speaker - given I now had two big gaping holes in my drywall from the anchors. While I was moving the center channels speaker wire out of the way, the copper touched the center wall outlet. I saw a quick spark and black soot was on the outlet. I was like oh no, what did I just do?!!! So as I'm praying I didn't damage my audio/video equipment, I tried to turn on my receiver and it's stuck in "Initializing" status scrolling on display. By this time, I'm like no, please no! I turned on the projector and it posted the DLA screen and turned off immediately afterwards. I tried a few more times before I accepted that I had done the most bone headed thing in my life - all because my screen wasn't centered well enough for me to take a stupid picture of it. Ugh... now I'm sick. lol

Ugh... now I'm sick. lol
Dude. You win the prize for worst luck on this forum. I legit thought I had that title until I read all this. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry all that happened. Any chance your home insurance would cover any of that? Might be worth a phone call...

Since you list Hitachi DLP projector, I am guessing this was a while back? Also, I guess no reconciliation.

Lol I know man. Thanks... I thought of the home insurance but my wife wasn't willing to put it through - since she figured they would raise our premium and get that money back and then some. So I just bit the bullet and took it as a very expensive lesson to make sure I pay attention to what I'm doing when it comes to my Theater room.

Audio Equipment: Onkyo TX-NR656 (Dolby Atmos and DTS:X)
Speakers: Dual BIC/Acoustech PL-200 Subwoofers, Yamaha NS-AP8805BLF-LRC Slim Speakers, Fluance Signature Series Hi-Fi Bipolar Speakers and 82C Silver Ticket Height Speakers.
Video Equipment: Dark Energy Abyss 120" Screen, JVC DLA-X550r, and Panasonic UB900.
