... for someone who currently has a DLP front projector? I'm kind of scared of the "softness" I hear with regards to the pearl. I am projecting on a matte white Da-lite 106" with pretty good control of ambient light. I want to make the move to 1080p as I now own an HD-A1 as well as a PS3. I am aware that the HD-A1 is incapable of outputting 1080p, but I figured I'd go for the best specs available for my range. I'm pretty sure DLP is out of the question as the prices are above my limit. I love my current projector, so I wish InFocus had a 1080p DLP at or around my range. My main concerns are sharpness, contrast and color accuracy. I know there always seems to be a tradeoff with lumens:contrast, so I will sacrifice brightness for better contrast. I know almost any new projector I get will be a lot better than my almost 5 year old projector, but I just love the picture I get from it, so I need something that will be a good 3-5 year replacement. I watch movies, broadcast HD, and play video games(no burn-in a plus of DLP), so whatever I buy will get heavy use.

I can handle things I'm smart -- not like everyone says -- not dumb, smart and I want respect!

Scared of softness?

You should see the Pearl for yourself to make this determination.

Do you know of a place I could get a demo in the NYC area?

I saw a demo of the Sony Pearl in the Magnolia section of Best Buy in Carle Place. It was connected to an HDDvd player playing the Mummy on a Stewart screen. Picture looked great considering the ambient light coming from outside the room. In the top drawer of the cabinet under the screen you'll find the remote so you can do some tweaking.

Have fun

Another Pearl owner saying go see that Carle Place demo. Then we'l tawk.
Pearl and HD-DVD, yeah then let's chat.

Reviews have been excellent and one indicated the Pearl may be the best below 15K and definitely up to 10K.

But go look for yourself.

It's all just a game. I just play to win.

I own the HC5000 but have demoed the Pearl. Agree that the Pearl is an awesome very well designed product. What kept me away from it the poor implementation, making it a real gamble.

To get a Pearl you will need to live close to a decent dealer or get it from AVS, so you can exchange it if you get a Lemon.

That is the reason i went with the Mitsu, love it, absolutely love it, rock solid, as expected under the triple diamond label.
