So far, the only thing that Tom Stites has posted is that it will be at Caesar's Palace in the Palace Tower somewhere. I scoured the CES exhibitor's list and find no information on JVC Pro. Hopefully we will hear from Tom or someone else in the know...

Regards, Peter

Thanks for the info. Do you think it will be an invitational thing or just anybody with a CES badge can walk in ?

JVC usually have a dealer only private demo. SO basically invite only.

JVC Consumer will have a display area at Caesar's Palace, Augustus Ballroom and I'm sure they'll have their HD1 there.

JVC Pro will have a private suite showing the RS1, but I won't have the suite number until Saturday afternoon LV time when one of our guys actually checks in to the hotel. I will post here when I have it.

So I guess I missed that the HD1 is the consumer model and the RS1 the pro - I had thought it was just naming conventions for US units vs overseas units. Does it turn out that there is a difference in the models?

Hi Tom. Happy New Year. Indeed, are there any differences between the HD1 and the RS1?

Hi Mark, Happy New Year to you as well...and everyone else!

At this point, no substantial differences in the two units other than color scheme...ours will be all black with flames on the side. Just kidding about the flames, of course. I believe the HD1 will have a brushed aluminum front, but not absolutely certain.

Cheers,
LL

Cheers,

Tom, thanks for the info and Happy New Year to you too. I also appreciate your honesty in the post above. Marketing reps from other companies would be touting the special "antireflective", "sound absorptive" and "thermally conductive" properties of the "specially forumulated black coating"

P.S. flames on the sides would be kinda cool. Just don't mess with the black faceplate as we don't want our ANSI to be reduced by .00001%

13000:1 to 15000:1 isn't substantial.

Agree. Not substantial. I doubt if the two models were actually different in CRs (15000 vs 13000), that one could detect the difference other than by some very careful measurement.

There was tons of excitement when the "cheap" Ruby was announced with so many people buying them. At least as much when the Pearl was announced or more. Now there are so many people wanting to buy the RS1. I'll bet there are very few Ruby or Pearl owners who will buy an RS1. This means that in the last year or so, there must be a huge number of people getting 1080p projectors.

These new prices are wonderful. I can't wait for my RS1.

JVC pro dealers traditionally fill phone or internet orders at a few percentage points above cost. Pre order prices from such dealers have been so low that most B&M dealers who buy consumer JVC from a JVC consumer distributor at prices 10% or so higher than a pro dealer buys simply have no interest in this machine. As more pro dealers pick up the machine prices will drop further. At present pricing, there is no profit available for a B&M dealer and no way to recoup the cost of a demo. Ever wonder why so few dealers show JVC front projectors unlike Sony dealers who show Sony FPs? Most Sony dealers pay Sony the same price JVC pro dealers refuse to pay another store from doing their demos. Many customers demo at one place and buy from a cheaper non demoing source. With JVC, they will have to really work at finding a store demo. My guess is that the RS1 will be available very cheaply by mail etc. The HD1 of course will be available by spacial order from your local B&M but at a price that will be at least 10 per cent higher. Sales of Sony projectors in the US will dwarf those of JVC because of JVC's distribution policies. JVC killed all chances of this machine being widely demoed even before the machine was released.

Interesting comments...

There is no doubt that it is going to be harder to find a demo of the JVC than a Sony product. Sony's distribution channels and product line always keep them in the consumers mind. Retailers don't have to do a lot of "brand" selling when they push a Sony product. Having said that, I think any HT equipment dealer should look seriously at the JVC if they have to compete against a Sony dealer.

I don't think a 10% price differential will kill many sales. I will always pay 10-15% more for a product locally if I am going to receive local support, especially an expensive, complex item like a projector. I am on the pre-order list from AVS simply because as far as I know, there is no JVC dealer in my area. My current projector is a Sony which I purchased locally.

Dealers are all very curious as to how these are to be marketed...and to date there is no info coming from JVC to dealers on this. Hopefully, more will be learned at CES.

The pro dealers get the RS1 directly from JVC. The consumer dealers unless they do enough business with JVC to buy direct (few do), get the HD1 through JVC distribution. The pricing two different JVC distributors have given me is what I based my comments on.

BTW... whatever happened to the commitment that Jason would have a RS-1 for review before CES? Only a day and a half to go!

Guys cut Jason some slack. I'm sure it was out of his control and he's just as disappointed. Its not like the unit arrived but he just left it sitting in a corner because he had other things to do. I'm sure he'll be digging as quickly as possible once he gets his hands on one.

Hey Noah. Happy New Year.

See all those smiles in Mad Dog's post?

My guess is that Jason is on his way to CES tomorrow and that he never got a projector to review.

I am sure he will spend some time with one in Vegas.

The problem is that he won't be able to tell us. Why?

Because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

JVC Pro also goes through distribution; has for at least a couple of years now. Local distributors around me know nothing yet...or the little they know has them concerned about the HD-1 and the RS1U when they have HD10s and HD2s still in stock.
