Was an actual retail price ever announced for the RS2 and can we call you to ask what the specific numbers are we're talking about for a differential if a trade program ever happened?

Not a chance.

I am a minimum of 2 years away from my next projector, and probably longer than that..

A trade-in program would be very tempting, depending on the $$$$.

Hmmm. Just saw this thread. I've quite pleased with my RS1 (thanks again, Jason!), but it will be interesting to see what this trade-in program will be.

I was thinking that I was 2-3 years away from my next projector too - as the more I view my RS1 - the more impressed I am with it. But a trade-in program would be tempting. As was said before - kinda depends on the $$$.

The main upgrade I would go after would be the improved on/off contrast ratio. (We don't know if the ANSI is improved yet.) But I wonder just how visible it would actually be? My black level and shadow detail is pretty amazing (IMHO) - and I'm currently very happy w/ it. But I know there is room for improvement. Also - my RS1 has very nice convergence and has worked flawlessly for me. Never a glitch or hick-up. My only complaint is the slightly bright corner issue - noticeable only on occassion - and which may or may not be improved on the RS2.

All good points. I have what I consider to be a "good" RS1, as I don't have many of the issues that a few others have mentioned. Good convergence, good brightness, the shading is pretty good etc.

Even with some type of trade in program, I doubt it would be worth it for just better on/off contrast. If there were a noticeable improvement in ASNI contrast, more accurate color/tweaking ability, etc, then I might reconsider....but even I would probably be better off just waiting.

Rob, I'm very much in the same boat as you describe. I can't imagine the the cost of the upgrade would be so modest to tempt me.

I read somewhere that one difference between the RS2 and the HD100 was more thorough QC on the former. Was that just a rumor?

I voted 'No'. Although the added benefits from the RS2 would be nice, my primary concern is exactly as tomhahn mentions above. There seems to be so much variance with LCoS...

That being said, the trade up option would tempting f the price would be better than the difference between the best street price on the RS2 and what a used RS1 would sell for

I voted no. Back the color level off and the over saturation issue is insignificant to me. The contrast is way beyond what you see in a movie theater now, heck it is better than all my LCD flat panels, noticeably so.

Naw, I'm gonna wear this puppy out. I'll get another one when they get rid of the lamp, to me the biggest weakness of FP now.

My HT is an oldie but goodie!

7 grand, yikes. I think I will definitely stay put now. I was actually considering the new model for that price thats way out of my range. If I could get it for 5k then yeah I'd go for it.

$7000, that seems a bit crazy. I'll be interested to hear what Jason says on price.

I swapped out an HD2K for an RS1 after owning the former for a little over a year and took a huge hit. I'd have to be looking at a comparable visual difference before I would throw more money at this, and even then I would require a few years of use to justify the expense. So I voted no.

I would also be interested in a trade-in. Please contact me, Jason, with the details if you decide to set this up.

This is my first time back to the forum in many months after getting my RS1. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no desire to switch out my RS1. This is my third projector and I love the picture that it puts out and can't imagine anything looking any better. I intentionally leave the forums after making a major purchase so that I won't get upgrade fever from reading about all the new stuff. Its a really nice feeling to be able to come back and see all of the Cedia talk about the new units coming out and not even feel the slightest urge to upgrade. I really can't see myself upgrading until this unit breaks or until some stupendous advancement in technolody happens. I have a 2.35 CIH setup using a Key Digital scaler and a prismasonic lens and everything is working perfectly together. For everyone still on the lookout for a new projector purchase...Happy Hunting!

I compared a RS2 to my RS1 in my black hole. Results:
- RS2 is sharper, visibly sharper, despite having worse convergence than the RS1
- About double the On-Off contrast seems right. That effect is subtle most of the time
- Colors were similar but I could not calibrate the RS2 with a probe. Not enough time.

Time to upgrade? Maybe, if I find a specimen with perfect convergence...
