The motion flow setting makes on screen motion appear natural which really lets you think you are seeing the content like looking through a window. The fan is quieter. It does 3D better than my 3D plasma.

I couldn't be happier.... Though I'm sure better pj are always available. Thus farewell to this thread, it's been fun.

How much better have the blacks gotten?

I tell ya. The HW30 I bought doesn't have motorized lens functions so doing anything with a scope screen other than masking would be too much trouble.

However, Today I watched Gravity in 3D and it's a scope movie... I considered putting up the masks I have .. (they are just simple foam pieces wrapped in velvet) but I noticed the black bars appeared black.

Actual measurements would be another matter but the quality of the picture has gone up so far I can hardly believe it. I've read about some "motion flow" processing or something which, sounds like a bad thing. But, on Low ... it makes it all so fluid ... it really works!

I have been hanging around the 4K set at Best Buy now that they have Blu Ray upscaling in the demo thinking it looked great and maybe it does but this HW30ES leave me wanting nothing... It's just amazing.

I sold my VW60 on Ebay this afternoon...

By all means, I'm not knocking the VW60 .. I certainly loved it and wondered if I would have enough of a jump with the HW30ES .. but the answer is yes ... it's a major jump. I haven't measured light output yet but it's very bright even with 3D. Things have certainly moved forward quiet a bit.... I imagine the Sony 4K projectors would just knock my socks right off but I think I can live with the new HW30 for 10 years.

I hate frame interpolation, I'm a purist.

I need to demo the new models, black levels have to be considerably better this day and age.

I like the purist notions, I really do.

But, I was watching Skyfall for example and there was this scene where the villain (forgot the name) hands Bond a gun and the entire movement was pure natural.... Now... I guess it was anything but natural given the processing is fudging it but I have never seen smooth motion like that before.. It was beautiful.

I do think you need to demo the later stuff... (But only if you think you can move on it... Because, it's great... real great.)

$660....

I have a feeling I could have got more if I didn't post a screen shot using a cell phone camera but that's ok, I'm happy with the "deal". (now I have to figure out what's wrong with my SLR...)

I put in several bulbs.... I used it every day for 5 years.... Sometimes twice a day.

Reason I asked is my work friend has a 9-10 year old Sanyo 720p, and asked me about the latest PJ, he's got a 120" screen.

I told him wait 3-4 years for 4k to become more mainstream in PJ lineup, and said a older model like VW60/70 might be enough to tide him over @ $600.
My guess was pretty close.

You're right...

Ebay said the VW60 was "trending at $1200" and I don't know where they got that from but there are plenty of buy it now auctions for $1500-ish.

Like I said,.. I think maybe I would have got a bit more if I put more into the listing...But the new PJ is here and I wanted to just get some of that money back and ... I just didn't put in the effort like I should have.

Have you even seen the B-stock sale?.... Filled with Sony marked WAY down... There is one for under $900 ...

Check the one for $899...

Honestly I recommend anyone with a VW60 to put it on the bay and snag one of these B-Stocks... The new PJs are GREAT!

But AVS claims this sale is a yearly thing so if that's true I guess you could wait till next year...biggrin.gif

Hmmm--I guess I need to sell my VW60. I'm on my second JVC since the Sony and never bothered selling the Sony since I didn't figure I'd get that much for it.

So I give up my power focus, does the HW15 have anamorphic mode? I have scope screen.

How much brighter in calibration?

I don't know all about the hw15 but my hw30 has manual zoom so it's not suited for most scope screen setups.

I'm going to give my VW60 at least one more round of life and see what the future holds. I'm putting a new lamp in this weekend and having Jeff Meier (umr) do a recalibration in a couple of weeks.

I've been checking out the Sony 55ES, and it looks and has been said to be a great projector. I still like having motorized zoom and focus, but that wasn't the deciding factor to hold. Just figured good enough is good enough for the moment and so I'm going to have Jeff work some magic while he's out on tour.

See ya. Dave

On my Harmony Ultimate remote settings, it asks "When you switch inputs, does the device skip unused inputs?" I've checked the owner's manual but do NOT see the answer; would someone please advise?

Thanks,

Jack
