Top right corner of this thread is the search function. It's a dropdown menu.

I wasn't using the mobile version on my phone. So the search function I was referring to is on the full version of the forum.

Here's a link to the thread that I referenced earlier. It's only about 149 posts long so you should be able to find what you're looking for there.

Here's the link for calibration. Forgot about it.

Great! Chiefs just won their first playoff game in 22 years.

Gave my Pro8100 to my son when I moved to a Sony VPL-HW40ES. Guess I can sell my backup Pro8100 now once I can figure what it's worth.

Hello all, haven't posted on years, but still on the first bulb. I probably have low hours compared to most, but mine still has the purple tinted vertical band on the left side. I may have it zoomed to wide. I'll have to try making the picture smaller, and maybe move the projector back. Otherwise, great, consistent picture.

I gave my old Pro8100 to my son about a year ago and it lost both HDMI ports without doing anything to the cables. Tested all of the other inputs and they work fine. Any ideas? Thought about using a HDMI to component converter but not sure if they really work.

I think they should work, I noticed MonoPrice has a couple for sale. Is the component input working? I would try it before you buy the adapter. I have used DVI to HDMI adapters and they work well. One other thing, does component do the HDCP "handshake"? If not then you will not be able to play any HD protected sources. Let us know what you end up doing. I still use my projector, but may replace it soon. What did you replace it with?

I think DVI to HDMI is a little different since DVI is just the digital video signal without the audio. Not sure about the handshake with HD source. I remember early on in this thread that the HDMI ports were relatively fragile but the problems usually resulted from multiple insertions. In this case the cables hadn't been touched and the ports just ceased to function.

Replaced it with a Sony VPL-HW40ES. It's definitely a step up. Brighter and picture really pops. Even the 3D is fairly bright. Just bad timing on my part as Sony came out with the VPL-HW45ES about nine months after I got mine. It's an upgrade for the same price.

Shark, you are right. the DVI has no audio. Component has audio but just stereo? I think on my old system I had to use the optical out to get 5.1 digital sound. I replaced the bulb on my Viewsonic about a year ago with a bare Ushio bulb, so when the bulb gets some hours on it, I will replace the projector then. Is the Sony smaller than the Viewsonic? Mine is HUGE. But, it's quiet and in a dark room it still throws a nice image. The color was hard to get adjusted though. Took forever.

The Sony is a little smaller but not much. Component is just video and is 1080i max.

Found a converter on Amazon that states it handles HDCP and the reviews say that it works for BD so will give it a try.

"The Next Generation .. " ..

It's odd to think it's coming up on the 10th year .. remember bouda78 .. ?? I had exchanged info with him years ago, and I got a reply / brief email from him a few months back .. he and his family ended up being refugees .. sad, really .. he was so proud of Syria / Damascus ..

I remember him. When he dropped off the forum, I was worried he'd got caught up in the conflict. Did he say where they wound up?

In the brief email I got, he did not say, other than they had lost their home, etc .. it kinda made me think about the issue, since he and his family would seem to just be regular folks caught up in the conflict .. I would hope they could make their way to a new life and would hope America might be an option .. these days, who knows ..

Good! Glad he is able to use it. I would like a brighter projector, but I saw used prices for the Viewsonic at less than $200, I guess that I will run it until dead or I need to purchase another bulb. Then I think I will follow your lead and purchase the Sony 40 or 45. Seems like they are almost one and the same. I still like the image the Viewsonic puts out, especially when the room is plenty dark. Friends that come over who have never seen a projector properly set up are still slack-jawed and stare at the 100" screen. If any ambient light on though, the image doesn't look too good.

You know, we chat about this projector or that one, but the story Dragon relayed about the guy from Syria sort of puts things in perspective. Things can change really quickly. I have friends who are refugees from Cambodia, they said the country descended into anarchy in the period of three or 4 weeks. Many family members died as a result.

The Sony 45ES price @ $2K is the same as the 40ES on sale and is, based upon the reviews, slightly better.

We are lucky to live here but it pains me to see the direction the country is going compared to 50 years ago.

Thanks for the post re. Bouda. I certainly remember him! His enthusiasm about the Viewsonic sold me on the projector, my first and it's still great. I've thought about him every time I see another horrific news story from Syria. Glad to hear he's still kicking and hopefully both him and his family are out of harms way!
Every now and then I take a peek here so when I did tonight I was surprised that there'd been some activity. Glad I stopped by. REALLY hard to believe it's been TEN YEARS. Wow, time really does fly by!

Has anyone purchased a bulb recently? I now have well over 500 hours on my current bulb and it has dimmed significantly. Same as the original bulb did. I do use normal lamp mode most of the time so it doesn't last long.

The last time I bought a bulb I first tried the cheap Mwave bulb which turned out to be dimmer than my used stock bulb. I then ended up getting this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIEWSONIC-Pr...bfb&rmvSB=true

I would like to get the same bulb again. I don't mind if it is just the bare bulb. It is very easy to install in the housing.

Can anyone recommend where to find it today at a fair price?

I see that the lamp in the eBay link states "Osram/Phillips". I believe the OE bulb is Ushio.

Have you looked at the classifieds here?

You are correct. It is a Ushio bulb. That was a link to the bulb I bought a few years ago. It was an Ushio bulb.

I am probably going to go with this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIEWSONIC-PR...IAAOSwCypWmIh2

It would have said it on the bulb itself. I imagine you have it installed already so checking will be a hugs PITA and I don't expect you to do that. I will check with the seller. Thanks for posting that!

I started an online chat with Apex Lamps. They confirmed it is an Ushio bulb.

Thanks again for the link. That is the best deal I have found.
