Nice contribution to the thread jsmith.

I am still wow'd after all these years of the picture quality of my RS2. I watch a lot of sat hd programs in my theater and still today get totally immersed in the show.

I stopped going to CES 5 or so years ago because it was simply too much eye candy. I wanted every high end pj there I saw

My original bulb has close to 1500 hrs on it and still rocks, but soon I will replace it simply to see the diff in brightness.

My Home Theater is a work in progress.

Given its warranty and its plug and play, I think this would be worth the extra $40 or so dollars compared to the Osram that requires all the modifications and possible heat issues I mention above.
We were away for about 4 days. While we were gone, there were thunder storms and since all the clocks were flashing when we returned, I assume the power went out. That has happened many times since I've had my FPJ1 and last week, it was working fine. However, tonight, we watched a movie and the picture was in 4:3 mode. I thought it was something in my Oppo player but it turns out it was the projector (that has NEVER happened before). Once I figured that out and started watching, I noticed the pq is not what it was. It is actually pretty crappy. I did not check the hours, but I think it may have 1000hrs. I'm going to check all of my settings tomorrow to see if anything else changed other than the aspect. I'm wondering if we took a lightning hit or had some crazy surge. I've not noticed changes in any other equipment.

The lamp posted above is $116 and they only have 12. So, since it is not expensive, I'm going to buy one. Can I change it on the ceiling or will I need to remove the pj? BTW, it is an FPJ-1

Changing bulb

I'm positive you can change while it is mounted on the ceiling. The bulb door is on the side.

I've attached instructions from the manual.

Thanks. Digging out my manual was on my to do list for this afternoon. This pj has been trouble-free for nearly 10yrs. I'm hoping it is just a lamp. Also, I found another supplier with the replacement specifically for the FPJ 1. It is $10 more, but the other one was a JVC lamp. I know they are probably the same, but there could be a slight difference and I want plug-n-play.

http://www.projectorlampsource.com/p...fpj1_lamp.html

Edit: I just used my brain and checked the part number and it is the same at both sites. One says it is JVC CLA-FS2 and the other says Pioneer Elite Pro FPj1. I guess I'll save myself $10.

I ordered the $75 lamp assembly from Amazon on Saturday and it got delivered today (Monday). I can't complain about the shipping speed. However, for $75, we all know it has to be counterfeit and the Chinese have no issues with counterfeiting whatever they please. The box is pretty generic and makes no mention of JVC even though the Amazon description says:
"CTLAMP OEM Lamp Original Bare Bulb inside Replacement Lamp with Housing BHL-5009-S BHL5009S for JVC DLA-RS1 DLA-RS2 DLA-RS1U DLA-RS2U DLA-HD1 DLA-HD10 DLA-HD100 DLA-HD1WE DLA-RS1X DLA-VS2000"

The housing of the assembly does say JVC, but again...the Chinese....

Am I wasting my time with this lamp? Should I just return it and either buy a genuine lamp for $319 or something else? I can get a new projector now for <$3k with much better specs than this 9yr old FJP1.

How to check number of hours of the unit not the bulb

Hi guys,

Do you know how do we check the number of hours from the board on Pioneer's FPJ1? Not on bulb.

Thanks,
Rehan

There wasn't a follow up post on it being a fake or mot. Anybody else try it?

At 1800 hrs and in preparation for the upcoming fight I finally got around to changing my bulb. I used the Osram bulb and followed the method I posted the links to on pg 1.

Pretty straight forward. Since my pj is inverted, I put the bulb in with 'top' pointing up, which is the opposite of how they come factory. That also enabled me to simply cut and crimp the existing wires without extending. Sweet. The part that took the longest was trimming the 2 screws short enough to not hit the bulb. Other than that no issues.

At first I wasn't wow'd as I thought I'd be, but after a couple hrs of different materials I'm used to, I was all smiles. The biggest difference I'd say are the colors. They really pop now. The contrast is noticably better now, maybe because of the more vivid colors(?).

I'm a huge fan of The Strain. It's shot or edited using those yellowish type filters that Hollywood uses a lot, right? Like Swordfish was. Usually a lot of those scenes were pretty dark with my old bulb. Now they're still darkish but better detail and contrast. I'm totally happy with the Osram. Zero issues with shading or shift.

Go Mayweather!

My Home Theater is a work in progress.
