I just bought a new HDTV (Sanyo DP26649) and it has a function called "signal balancer" that blurs the hell out of everything and makes the picture worse. What is this and what's the point?

If I had to guess, it probably does the same thing as gauze in front of a camera lens or tequila in a guy.. makes everything look prettier and softens some of the visual defects. I hadn't noticed it before and the owner's manual doesn't mention it. Personally, I'll take the tequila.

FWIW, I just bought one of these two weeks ago ($184 at WalMart) and hung it in the bathroom for my wife to watch while she gets ready for work. For what it cost, she is happy with it so far.
