Hi all,
I just purchased a Sharp AQUOS 60" from Best Buy. I have hooked my Atari up thru the coax input and the screen always seems black and white. I'll wiggle the coax to RCA adapter a bit and the colors come and go.
I have swapped adapters with the same results. I also connected the Atari to a VCR with the same results (The VCR was hooked into the S-Video inputs).
The kicker is I have a 5 year old Sony XBR 60" upstairs and the Atari 2600 looks great on that TV. Any ideas?
I should add that when I plug the cable from the wall directly into the coax input the screen looks fine.
Thanks.
Rudy

Are you trying to use a S-Video to component(RCA) adapter as a component(RCA) to S-Video adapter?

If yes the the results of the following search have some options you should consider:

Make sure the Atari's RF output selector is set to either channel 3 or 4 and the TV's antenna input/channel is set to match.
Also, make sure the TV's RF/antenna input is set to "Air" and not "cable" (or perhaps digital only).

I think you meant "composite".

FYI, the Atari's output is RF using a composite (RCA) plug which requires a "composite to F-type" connector.

Thanks for the responses.
I am using the Coax to RCA adapter like this==> https://www.atari2600.com/item--Dire...-PROD6238.html

I have set the channels properly and tested on both channels 2 and 3 and made sure the channel scan was done on both "Antenna" and "Cable" modes.
It's weird, I'll get a color screen for about 5 seconds then goes to B/W. I tried the console upstairs and it works fine. My Sega Genesis does the same thing.
I'm wondering if this TV has internal electronics that just don't like older consoles.

I don't know...
RF channel 2 or 3 to an analog RF tuner should be no problem.

I'd suggest taking the 2600 to BBY and testing on one of their 60" Sharp floor models to test.

Most likley, the NTSC 3.58 mhz colorburst from the atari is off frequency or low enough in level just enough to where the Tv will not properly lock to it and display color. Solution? Ditch the Atari or use the older tv.
