This reminds me: years ago I found a map on the net of the boundaries among the five cable areas that the city of Chicago is divided into, but I failed to bookmark it and could never locate it again.  As all five areas are served by Comcast now, and the maps posted here so far appear to mark only county lines, I don't expect any Illinois maps that come to this thread in the future to show the intra-city divisions, but they do matter because Comcast's channel assignments and some other things do differ within the city.

Would anyone know where to find such a map now?  My web searches have been fruitless, but I'm notoriously bad at finding things on the net.

I'll look into it right now

Edit: is this the map?

Thank you, but no, it isn't (and it doesn't look at all accurate).

Please, there's no rush, and you're taking on a big project as it is, so my question was more for the readership at large than an additional task for you.

Thank you!  May I ask where you found it?

Some of the north lakefront (those division lines appear to follow the city's semi-official neighborhood boundaries) probably should be red for area 1 rather than blue for area 2 or 3, but the rest looks right.

i made the edit, i found it on wikipedia searching Community Areas in Chicago and went off all the zip codes for each area to complete the map via Wikipedia and found the cable listings on zap2it which may have led to the lakefront color error

glad i can help!

Hmm; I don't see anything about it on that Wikipedia page, but maybe it was linked off one of the external links in the footnotes.

The divisions on that page have their own errors, for that matter.

On the other hand, the map you posted might be right; for all I know, after areas 1 and 2 had come under the same provider, Comcast (or AT&T before them) could have cut some of the neighborhoods that were in 1 over to 2.  I can't imagine why, but it's not impossible.

i basically typed in each of those area's zip codes on to zap2it's tv listings database which came out to what areas had either District 1,3,5 or 2&3 so yes i would agree with you some of the neighborhoods may have switched to a different district entirely.

Thank you for the resource; I guess TitanTV would provide the same information.

The cable district boundaries inside Chicago never followed zip code lines, so for every zip (including my own) that straddles the 1-4-5/2-3 boundary, Zap2It lists both selections without giving any clue about how the line snakes through the zip code.

I came across these maps for the city of Chicago, which appear to be based on accurate data, but the roads and such superimposed on them appear to be off position, so they don't give the boundaries as precisely as the map I saw years ago.

Area 1
Area 2
Area 3
Area 4
Area 5

Rather odd that Area 3 is called "Southwest" while Area 4 to the southeast of it is called "Central."

If the ZIP code search on Zap2it is really what's being used to make these maps, I would consider instead using the FCC database of cable companies in the United States available here. All you have to do is select a state from the drop-down list on the left and hit "execute" to get a list showing the counties and communities in which cable companies in that state are licensed to operate. I would think this method would be less tedious and faster than the Zap2it method, but maybe not.
