I've looked at some threads here and those that deal with banding problems all have to do with backlighting issues and screen uniformity.

My problem is a little different.

I have an older model Sharp AQUOS HDTV and on analog movies where a large part of the screen is showing gray clouds or sky, or fog scenes, I get noticable curved lines that break the image into curvey horizontal sections down the picture. Not the same as dis-uniformity of backlighting as described elsewhere.

Anyone have an explanation for this phenomenon, or can you point me to a prior post?

Thanks.

Mike

Sounds like typical MPEG artifacts. They're more visible on an HDTV set displaying SD images.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.
