I have a Panasonic 720P 50" Plasma. Had it for a few years and never a problem.
I used to be set up with a onkyo receiver and component cables.

I recently purchased a new Yamaha RX-V475 receiver and ran the direct tv hd dvr and ps3 into the Yamaha and then HDMI out to the Panasonic TV.

I have tried to change the settings on everything to make sure the resolution is set to 720 for playback devices.

I started noticing a pop sound which sounded to me like it was coming from the TV, then the picture resets by going black, then HDMI 1 comes up on screen and then the picture returns.

I went asked the guys at best buy what they thought and they said it sounds to be over heating and resetting itself, a faulty unit and advised me to return it. which i did for a new unit.

now the new unit does it also. somewhere there is a setting not right, it cant be the receiver - it appears to be working fine and I dont get the problem with the direct tv signal, only when using the ps3.

any ideas? should i change the hdmi slots on the av? should i try new hdmi cords?

everything worked fine before so i ask what has changed?

1. The HDMI ports on the tv were never used, maybe ones bad?
2. the receiver but i think its working fine

thanks for any light you can shed on this. cool.gif

To further isolate the problem:

1. Try swapping HDMI cables.

2. Try swapping TV HDMI inputs.

3. Try connecting your PS3 directly to the TV.

There is some kind of handshake issue going on between the PS3, Yamaha, and Panny.
Does your Panny or Yamaha have ARC or CEC feature? If they do, turn it off.

Also, you mentioned you changed settings to 720P. I would just let the signal pass through the Yamaha unchanged, and the let the Panny do the scaling.

As the previous poster suggested, try a different input into the TV like HDMI 2

Thanks guys for the help. I think changing the HDMI port on the tv fixed it.
HDMI 1 is a bad connection, possibly a bad port.
HDMI 2 works clear and stable

I did also change to 240 htz cables on the ps3 and direct tv dvr but pretty sure the tv port was the issue.
I also changed the playback devices ports on the receiver from 1 & 2 to 4 & 5.

Anyway its working great now.
