I'm sorry to trouble you. If I understand correctly, component connections need 5 wires to function -- red, green, blue, and then two for sound.

The green wire in the "component" input/output sends a black and white picture to the TV. The other two wires (blue and red) do nothing -- I unplugged them from the back of the TV, and there was no change.

AFAIK, both the TV and the DVD player are working fine.

Does anyone know about the technical specs on component inputs? I do not have another TV I can try.

I'd like to know where the color info comes from and where it is being lost. BTW, I tried switching the blue and red at the component input of the TV, there was no change.

I had this problem before, and I don't remember how I fixed it. Maybe I bought cable TV. I've stopped cable now.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I think I got it. I need to choose "Color Stream HD" in my TV's set up screen for component input, and now it is in color. I thought "component" was "component", and it was that simple. It is not.

The green wire still carries a B/W picture, but the TV is now paying attention to the blue wire, which carries color info. No idea what the red wire is for. Sound (red + white) is still fine. Now I can watch in color.

The DVD player is a Toshiba D-R550
The TV is a Toshiba 40L5200U

Thanks!

3, audio is not part of it.
Component video consists of a luminance signal and two colour difference signals.

the red wire carries the other colour difference signal...(r-y)
