What is the thing labeled Memory Card?

Mark

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

Hi Everyone,
I have been reviewing the NetCommand Digital Guide that came with the Promise Module. There are some few surprises in this guide. The following items are mentioned in the Guide!
1) Digital DVD connected via 1394, possible future HD-DVD player.
2) AV Disc-- which is a harddisk that provides PVR functionality to the PM. The manual talks about serching and controlling the AV-Disk.
3) HAVi 1394 enabled Hometheater Amplifier.
4) 1394 enable cable boxes, no surprise here!
5) 1394 enabled SAT STB.
6) No surprise1 but D-VHS both AV/C and HAVi are supported.

Must be products in planning!

Hi Mark,
The memory card slot is used to install/upgrade the software.

I'm glad that you have your PM, Bruce. I hope that it will give you 1080i/720p HD, for many years. Dick

I'm glad that someone finally received the Promise module. I've been holding the agreement letter waiting to see what kind of experience others are having.

The AV disc description sounds VERY interesting. I just hope that it doesn't take 2 years to arrive.

Keep us posted on your experiences. I'm sure that there are many Mitsubishi owners who will commit if everything works out as planned. Good luck.

what a teaser, I will not see mine until this week. I guess H2Ofun cannot say "keep waiting for the promise"! Great pics.

I am really happy about the digital cable tuner as AT&T expects to offer HDTV here in 2q of 2003.

Bruce,
Can you clarify, I can't tell from your picture how many bananas the PM requires. Do you know if it will accept any other fruit? :)

Seriously, thanks for the photo, it's great to actually see it. Does it seem that once it's installed that the TV will need to sit further out from the wall?

It looks like this has a 5 wire interface to the set. Could it be RGBHV or RGB and power? If so how is this different from a STB with component out except that the wires are inside the TV when it is mounted?
(except for Net Command)

I just did some rough measurments. My 46807 has about 2 3/4 inch overhang on the back side. The Promise Module is about 3 1/2 inch thick. So the set will only have to move out 1 more inch from the wall. Actruely my set sets two inches from the wall already. So it will not move any.

Many Mitsu's have a triangle shaped extension in the cabinet back. The PM doesn't stick out any further so the TV doesn't need to be pulled out from the wall any more than today.

I have no details on the interface. I am also sure that there may be some changes made to the set when the PM is installed. There are some boards and other cables that I did not take a picture of, that came with the PM. These addional boards and cables goes into the set.

So details on the interface is not inportant to me. What is inportant is the total value and usefulness of the set after the PM is install. The usefulness and feature are what I will base my review on. Please note when I refer total value, I am not refering to cost.

The overhand that I mentioned is the same as the triangle shape extension that you refer too. On the 46 inch sets it more then just an extension.

Thanks Bruce.
Sorry. I had posted before having read the fact sheet you were good enough to pass on to us and it was detailed enough that it lists which TV's would need to move out from wall.
I have a 65905 and the back of the set juts out 5 1/4" so the PM should fit without moving the TV out any extra.

Bruce,
OK, I'll be interested in what you think after having it installed. I guess it is the only way if you want to record and it is a better value if you want cable and OTA HDTV (and haven't bought those yet). Still, I hope they don't turn off component outputs on STB's.

Hi JG,
I already have an SR-HD5 Directv/OTA STB. So I have been enjoying HD for almost two years now. I purchased the PM because I wanted to be able to do the following.
1) Watch SAT or OTA while recording another HD channel to my Mits D-VHS.
2) Watch DVDs while recording HD. Saturaday nights are movie night. I like to watch the District but cannot do it without the PM and DVHS
3) Prepare for the future use of the AV Disk, Dish 211. ETC.

A year late, 1000 bucks, and only works on a few of one mfg TV's. The facts speak for themselves.

And already more promises of promises coming. At least life stays the same.

Dave

PS: Bruce, I am glad you finally got it. Hope it works well for you and others. Now if I could just get 169time to deliver of their "promise"

I ordered my PM on Thursday and expect my agreement to be faxed to me this week. I have been watching HDTV since 1999 when I used the Mitsubishi HD-1080 ATSC Receiver and now the Echostar 6000. I want to add the PM so I can record OTA HDTV from the PM receiver to a Mits HDVCR and watch another show using the 6000 ATSC receiver. Later on I will decide if I want the 921 or 211 from Echostar. I am not sure the 211 will have an ATSC OTA receiver in it. If not, I will use the HDPVR-921.

Hay Dave,
I guess now that everyone else can get the Samsung SIR-T165. Mitsubishi owners can now upgrade with the PM. Dish is coming out with 921 and 211. Sort of leaves 169Time in the dust. :)

Sorry guys I just couldn't resist. LOL!

Please everyone! lets make this the last negative comment posted on this thread. Lets keep to the subject. I would rather get good/bad owner reaction to the PM and make this thread truly informative, so that it will truly help the newbies and others to make the right decisions for there-selfs. Since this is a Mitsubishi only solution, I would like to refrain from product comparisons, DVI vs Firewire arguments etc.

What about RF sensitivity, reliability in a multi-path environment? How does reception reliability compare to existing receivers? Speed of acquisition & display during channel surfing? Can we finally display PIP over a digital signal? Someday my DTC100 will go to the bedroom set and I'll need a new STB for the family room so a fully integrated solution like the PM is very attractive to me.

Hi Akenyon,
All good and valid questions. But I can't answer until its install. I do have some multi-path and weak signals around here on distent Digital stations. So I will be able to compare the PM capabilities of receiving signals and blocking multi path against the SR-HD5. And I have a way to do PIP with the PM. So I hope to answer all of your questions within the coming weeks.
