I doubt, but could be wrong, the stuttering problem was due to over compression.

Over-compression means sending a stream that is at a lower-bitrate. How a lower-bitrate would create a stuttering problem solely on a 6000 receiver versus other units would not make sense. The only fault of an over compressed stream is decreased PQ and shouldn't induce stuttering.

My bet is the MPEG-2 stream wasn't compliant (e.g. They changed the MPEG-2 resolution on some of the channels) or was out of spec for the 6000's MPEG-2 decoder chipset which other receivers are able to handle fine.

But like all the previous replies, this is only a guess.

Cheers, Kermee

Just got off the phone with a Dish CSR, evidently my replacement 6000 is backordered... I helpfully offered to accept a 921 instead, it would be a cross I could bear, take one for the company, etc., but no, I'll just have to wait.

I wonder if a bunch of 6000 owners flooded the repair depot with requests due to "the Stutters"?

It would serve Dish right for having to replace a bunch of perfectly (kind of) 6K's just because they wouldn't admit for a long time they had a problem.

Foxbat,

6000 back ordered? I thought it was no longer in production?

The ones that they send out are likely refurbished and not brand new.

Going to sign up for Dish Network? PM me for a ClubDish referral number that will give you a $50 credit on your first bill.

I agree with you. It may be related to bandwidth-sparing issues, but not "over-compression". The higher the compression, the lower the bit rate and the less decoding. A slight incompatibility between the stream and the 6000's decoder, for whatever reason, seems very logical.

My replacement is up and running, and yes, it was marked as "remanufactured." The only visible difference I could see between my box and the "new" one is the lack of the Accessory jack on the replacement. I had to swap my 8PSK and 8VSB modules over to the replacement, no big whoop, and of course, I had to put all the local channels in, but it was pretty painless, all told.

Oh, and the stuttering channels are all gone;)

Hate to resurrect the specter, but I'm seeing occasional "stutters" on Comedy Central tonight during "The Daily Show".

The stuttering is gone, but I am back to a EPG that displays info not available for most of the future times. This issue seems to come and go.

It is a real irritant to me.

I get real tired of that, too.
