You guys must be REALLY frustrated by the delays, 'cause you're just talking CRAZY now. If you can't have one by November 1, you're taking your business elsewhere? No one else has an HD PVR product NEAR release yet!
Besides, due to the dearth of HD programming even with the HD Pak (I'm out of OTA range) and the resulting unlikelihood that my viewing time will coincide with the airing of programs I would like to watch, timeshifting is ESSENTIAL for me to get any material to watch. So I for one can't wait to get my hands on the 921. Scott said the OSD is "boring". The OSD looks AWESOME compared to my 6000!
Earlier someone said Dish's actual cost is $1400; if so, development costs (software and manufacturing setup) are being amortized in. Actual parts and labor to build them can't be more than $500 ($150-175 for 250GB HD, a CPU or VLSI, logic board, a few ports, a case).
Hopefully the upgrade deal will be attractive (as attractive as a new account?). If I wait 1 or 2 years, will the price come down to $400? Probably. But at this point I'm willing to pay any price. :) But dumps to D-VHS or Blu-Ray is also crucial... 25 hours ain't that long, especially if you'd like to hoard a few movies. ;)
