Dish CSR's will have no info on the SuperDish until Oct 16th, and that is $199 for the Dish and $99 for the install.

The free install promo won't be available until November 1st.

Well here is what Mark at Dishdepot just emailed out to those that are on his mailing list.

"We will be notifying those folks who have preordered the 921 very soon as it seems the release will be on schedule for November first.
The price is $999 with free shipping. The SuperDISH will also be available in the next couple weeks, so keep an eye on the site."

Ok well i just answered my own question. I guess they r giving pre-orders on the 811 at dishdepot. Is it a good idea to go ahead and pre-order or wait until it actually comes out cuz maybe Dish Network will offer some kind of offer for us current subscribers. Maybe including Superdish??? Anyone know anything???

I would wait to see if there's some kind of promotion on November 1. There could be a $100+ discount for those willing to commit to a certain level of programming.

In the true spirit of the Internet, I will foster the rumor into fact ;)

That's great!!! Charlie's doing the right thing by giving long time customers $100 off the new 811. I'm getting one, maybe two Nov. 1!!!

Well, maybe we'll know more after tonight's tech chat, but I just got off the phone with a local DISH retailer and they are saying the rumor is that the 921 won't be ready till December, early January.....at this rate, we'll be lucky if we see them this time next year!!!!

What is the source of the rumor that your retailer has relayed to you and that is now being relayed to us? Mark of Dish Depot feels the 921 is on target for Nov 1. Who is correct, Mark or your retailer or the person who told the rumor to your retailer?

EDIT: Just heard the disappointing news on the Dish tech chat that all they said was that the 921 would be available for the holidays. So mid December at the earliest for the 921. Dish continues to frustrate us on getting this product out the door. Just turned the tech chat off. Have no desire to hear any more of this nonsense.

EDIT 2: Just as I was turning off the chat, they responded to a question about the release date for the 921 and said mid to end of November. Can these guys get their act together and actually give a real answer? Doesn't look like it.

NO!

In the past 60 minutes I've heard three different answers from E* on when I can actually order a 921 and two different dates on when I can actually order a 105 SuperDish.

How hard is it to publish the same bit of information to all the employees so they're all reading off the same page?

Heck, I couldn't even get a straight answer as to which JVC DVHS will work.
Was hoping they would answer my email about recording to my MITS DVHS but no luck.

921 != Record to DVHS == Not interested in the product

Cable is looking better all the time. Checkout the Explorer 8000HD DVR.

Well, that was my first C-Chat - like my wife said, "you can tell those guys are techies."

"We're waiting on the software guys..." like I said before, I would rather wait for a working unit. They did mention that nov 11 (correct me if I am wrong on the date) they would have an offer for existing customers to upgrade to the 911. I'd guess it will be similar to their 510 upgrade requriements...

At least it's near release... I hope I'll have a unit by January.. great way to start off the new year ;)

Did they give anymore solid info on the 811 and it's release date? What about the SuperDish? I missed the chat.

Ten,

The Superdish can be ordered on 10/16, but they don't really want HDTV customers ordering it before November 1.

The 811 is still coming on/about November 1.

They said deals for existing subscribers on the 811/921 would be announced at the next chat on November 10.

The Firewire on the 921 was said to be enabled 1Q 2004.

The best news from the chat was that the DPP44 switch--which many are waiting for--is now slated for January 2004. This is the switch that will allow for dual tuners with a single cable run inside the home.

Will the 811 have the ability to output both SD and HD at the same time? As I hear now, the 6000 cannot do this, is this correct? Will the 811 have anythiing to offer that much more than the 6000 (i.e. a way to record HD content, firewire, etc)? It looks as though none of this would come to light, and with the 6000 and additions for $149 (as some are getting it), this appears to be the best fix? What would everyone do in this situation? Thanks for all input.

No Firewire on the 811; no way to record native HDTV. The only announced box with Firewire for either satellite provider is the 921.

You guys must be REALLY frustrated by the delays, 'cause you're just talking CRAZY now. If you can't have one by November 1, you're taking your business elsewhere? No one else has an HD PVR product NEAR release yet!

Besides, due to the dearth of HD programming even with the HD Pak (I'm out of OTA range) and the resulting unlikelihood that my viewing time will coincide with the airing of programs I would like to watch, timeshifting is ESSENTIAL for me to get any material to watch. So I for one can't wait to get my hands on the 921. Scott said the OSD is "boring". The OSD looks AWESOME compared to my 6000!

Earlier someone said Dish's actual cost is $1400; if so, development costs (software and manufacturing setup) are being amortized in. Actual parts and labor to build them can't be more than $500 ($150-175 for 250GB HD, a CPU or VLSI, logic board, a few ports, a case).

Hopefully the upgrade deal will be attractive (as attractive as a new account?). If I wait 1 or 2 years, will the price come down to $400? Probably. But at this point I'm willing to pay any price. :) But dumps to D-VHS or Blu-Ray is also crucial... 25 hours ain't that long, especially if you'd like to hoard a few movies. ;)

I slapped together an old Dish setup just to see the Tech Forum. Last month on Charlie Chat, Charlie said "Tune into the October Tech Forum for special bundles for current HD customers. Now the tekkies pawn it off to Charlie. If anyone gets their hands on a production 921 this year, I'll be very surprised.

That tech chat was sooo lame.Bad production all around.D* must have the worst marketing team in history. They are about to release a huge new line of equipment for the enhancement of their product in two weeks and they have no promos on their commercial breaks about it, (just some women telling me how to use my remote) and absolutely nothing on the Dish website about the new stuff. They should be telling as many people about the new products as possible.I would bet that less than 5% of dish customers watch the Charlie Chat or the Tech Chat. The csr's don't know squat and this stuff is suppose to be available in 2 weeks?Whats wrong with these people?!If I was a share-holder I'd be pissed.

My guess, is that there will be commercials on channels that Dish feeds the users. But not right away.

I'm guessing that if they did, they wouldn't have the units to fill all the orders. Besides, the initial units probably will have some software flaws that will get worked out by the inital few waves of owners of the new equipment. After these kinks have been worked out, they will probably have the units available in mass.

It's likely that we'll not only be mass beta testers (well, not quite maybe), but also that the more stable lump of sales will be cheaper to boot.

That's life on the bleeding-edge.

What I meant by that is the OSD is boring compaired to the 322 / 522 product.

The 921 looks EXACTLY like a 721, infact if you did not see that huge boat near your TV you would think it was a 721. :)

The good news about the 921 is they ramped up hardware production of the 921 so they should not be to hard to get around Christmas time. :D
