To my knowledge it always defaults to "all"! Nothing we can do at this time to let custom stick as the default. Somewhere in the manual it says the box does this so as you won't miss any new channels! Jeez...
Maybe a firmware upgrade down the line can address this dumb decision by Hughes!

I am having real problems getting anything with the Samsung T-160 that was sent to us.

OTA with the HTL is IMO excellent. I can get all the local HD channels here in Pittsburgh with simple rabbit ears. Of course, without a signal meter I don't have a clue what the signal strength is.
The signal meter will eventually be implemented but will be sometime before it does. For the newer HTL-HD with version 1.07 you hit the pause button to show the signal.
Just got my HTL-HD last night. How do I tell which version I have? The 1080i from Rochester (about 100 miles) was excellant but not quite as sharp as as Sat. I'm happy.
My tv is a 1080i only Panny 53". I think that the variable 2 mode is producing the best pic on HD channels vs. the all 1080i mode. I'm connected via component cables.
Maybe I'm imagining the difference...
What have you guys determined is the best mode for 1080i sets via component out?
V1.07 is your software version when checking in the menu? If so, please give us the whole line of info that comes up on screen showing the version #.
To see which board revision you have, grab a flashlight, look through the vent holes on the top of the chassis and look around for some words printed onto the circuit board itself. Youshould see a P/N, datecode and list of model numbers like LSS-3200A, LSS-3210A.
Looking at your part #, what letter does it end in? What is the datecode right under the part #?

I spoke with Hughes 11/24 rep had no idea about no signal meter, he sent a e-mail to his supervisor to forward to engineering about the problem. He claims if they to make it available it will take quite some time.

NauticaX,
Can you elaborate on the this? Are there already 2 versions of the HTL-HD receiver? Is there any way to tell from the original box it comes in as to what the version is?
Are we also correct to assume that the HTL-HD's with 1.07 have an OTA signal meter?
I too am very interested in hearing more about version 1.07. I still have three days left to return the receiver if there is indeed a version 1.07 that allows for checking the OTA signal strength. Can somone confirm exactly how this works and if version 1.07 is the only version that has it.
The software version info is coming from the fact that the HTL-HD is primarily a rebadged LG 3200A, Sony HD300. LG3200A, Sony HD300's have always had the signal meter so software revision may have nothing to do with it.
Does this mean that I do not need to find a HTL-HD with version 1.07 to have the OTA antenna signal strength meter. With version 1.06 I do not believe that if I press the pause button, a signal strength meter is displayed. I will, however, confirm when I get home.

Yes as of Nov 24th the newer version 1.07 should be starting to hit the stores. Some stores still might have the older version until they get rid of that stock. Yes the 1.07 does have the OTA signal meter. For people who has the 1.06 will have to wait awhile before over the air download is available to make it 1.08.
Is there anyway to tell which version the receiver will have from the box or the unit itself, without plugging it in, hooking it up to a TV and checking the version via the menu? I'm definitely going to swap mine out before my return date is up but it will be prettty difficult to find a version 1.07 if I need to make the store open the box and set it up before I will take it home.
Would a user of the HTLHD who currently has V1.07 please confirm the OTA signals trength meter works as discussed in this thread? Also, if you could please give us the date listed next to the version info that shows up onscreen in the menu mode?

I had my dish installed and did the account set up for HD programming only to find it doesn't work. Directv claims that the problem is related to the card, anybody else had problems with inital set up?
Go and get the Hughes...the Sony has had many problems and is way overpriced as well They are all made by LG, Zenith, Sony and Hughes and that part I am not thrilled with. Hughes is DirecTV anyway so if that your service..go with it. Samsung has many defects as well.

Thanks for reply. I called DTV back and there is some thing wrong with the dish setup. The other problem is if I select 720p, I lose video signal. They're going to send a installer back out on Tuesday.
If your HDTV doesn't support 720p then you won't get a picture on 720p. Very few TV's made today support 720p. Check your TV manual.

After half the day playing with my HTL-HD receiver, I'm finely receive HD stations. The installer reused my 3X4 multiplexer, explaining that it was OK and that the 5X8 was not needed. After several calls to DTV and a lot of incorrect information, I only one issue remaining, if I select "Native" when the receiver switches to 720P (ESPN), my picture screen goes black. It works fine in 1080I, 480P and 480I. All my input signal are 80 plus for all the transponders. Anyone have any ideas?

HDJunkie may have the answer. Does your TV do 720p? If not, switch to variable2.
