Has anyone received the Hughes receiver on this deal? I want to order but like everyone else, I need the DVI output of the Samsung for my 46" Sony monitor. From reading the threads here, it seems no one has gotten the Hughes, they all got the Samsung, even those that didn't specifically request it. Again, has anyone received the Hughes receiver on this deal?

You can't pick the receiver, but it seems most these days are getting the Samsung.

I don't know of anyone on the current promotions that hasn't received either a Samsung SIR-TS160 or a credit of some sort for them to go out and buy their own from a retailer.

When I called for the deal, I explained to the Customer Rentention rep that I had to have the Samsung because of Tivo. Instead of guaranteeing that I would get the 160, I was offered a $200 to go buy my own. You should be able to get a similar deal. Just make sure you ask to speak with a rentention rep.

I tried this, spoke to someone in customer retention and was told that they would NOT credit me $200. They said if anybody got that offer it was a mistake and should not have happened. I even told them I needed to get simultaneous output along with the DVI output. To be honest I don't believe them. I think I did not get it because I am a relatively new customer and am still 'obligated' for the year. Needless to say this annoys me big time. If they would have given it to me I was going to go and buy the Sony HD300.

I had the same issue and didn't get the credit either, for the same reason: If you are under contract, they have no incentive to 'retain' you just for the HD, since they aren't losing anything much. If you could leave totally (go to E* or cable), then they would be more likely to give you the $200 retention credit for getting HD equipment on your own.

I did receive the $200 credit, but was a 3-year customer and did have to speak with a D* retention agent. I was not under an existing 1-year obligation at the time I requested the $200 credit. D* sent me a SAT-C upgrade kit (at no charge) and also issued a $200 credit to my account after they received proof that I had purchased a set box and after I agreed that I would honor my end of the terms of their 1-year obligation under the D* HDTV offer. I installed the SAT-C kit and hooked up the receiver. D*applied the $200 credit to my account on the same day that I installed the STB and called them to activate the new receiver.

Okay, now I am scared. I ordered earlier this week since EVERYBODY is getting the sammy for this. Box and dish was to come today, but they called me and said "the dish will come today, but the box is backordered due to overwhelming demand, so it won't be till next week that it arrives. We have re-scheduled your install for Monday, to Friday"

Okay, NOW I am really scared that I am going to get the crappy hughes, and not the Samsung.

buyer beware!

I ordered the package early last week (I think Tues.). The dish came on Thursday, but no receiver yet. I may be in the same boat as you. My scheduled install is next Saturday.

FYI

That crappy hughes pulls in more OTA HD channels than my brand new state of the art Sony HD300. My one and only complaint about the Hughes was it does a terrible job on SD upconversion. I bought the Sony for the dual output via Svideo but there was absolutely no improvement in HD content and reception.

Regardless, my issue with the hughs was, now DVI out, which is how I would like to connect it to my 6UY.

So, lo and behold, the STB SAMSUNG 160 actually showed up this morning, after I bought the HTL-HD last night at GoodGuys.
And then, 10 minutes later the installer showed up, so I had a judgement call to make. Keep the HTL-HD, have the installer install the Samsung?
I had the installer put the Dish in and the SAMSUNG and activate it.
I guess, I'll be taking the HTL-HD back to GoodGuys tomorrow for return.
hopefully, the SAMSUNG will prove itself well.

And my receiver and dish came yesterday. I requested the Sammie but of course they said no guarantee. To my surprise, I got the new Hughes HTL-HD which does have the DVI connector. I asked that the system be installed after Thanksgiving so my install day is Dec. 5.

I figured that they would be shipping the newer HTL-HD's.
Anyone know how this compares to the Samsung?

I got the Hughes HTL-HD today. What sucks is that my install was rescheduled for next Sat. I was expecting the Samsung but the HTL-HD showed up Fedex Sat priority.
