I, too, am considering VOOM.......
especially after DISH NETWORK cancelled my DISH install appointment 12 hours before they were to show up and after I took the day off from work!

I'd like the basic with one "plus" package on one HDTV (I have free cable on the other tv)...........

I sure would like to know what the next "promotion" is going to be for JUNE.......... anybody?..... anybody????
:)

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!

I couldn't stand it any longer...
I went to Brands Mart and bought a Philips 34" wide-screen HD,
called VOOM, install set up for next week....

Now I need to call DISH, turn the tables on them and CANCEL (before they do!)

Can't wait for my VOOM!

I just got my Voom installed a couple of days ago, Directv is pretty weak compared to Voom. I wouldn't trade Voom for any satellite service. You're gonna love it.

Yeah, ok but she loves it. :) I can't just tell her 'you have to wait 'til Voom will have it'... it'd be a declaration of war... :D you know what I am talking about... ;)

You'll love Voom, but a word of caution with cancelling Dish: If you have CC Autopay, call and have it cancelled NOW. If you don't, you will end up with a one month bill that they will not refund. If you turn off your CC Autopay just before your billing cycle, then wait till your next billing cycle to cancel then you'll be at $0. Last I heard Dish does not refund any programming balance when you cancel.

Make sure that you visit the SatGuys VOOM forum (see link at my signature). You'll find everything that you need to know before, during and after installation.

I appreciate the info from both of you............

It's funny, DISH NETWORK was VERY anxious about selling me their set-up, but it took me 2 days to finally talk to somebody about cancelling my install set for tomorrow.........
I can't tell you how long I've been on hold while they transferred me "around-the-world"!

PS I didn't initially sign-up for "auto-pay" so I guess I'll see how it goes...

Looking forward to my new VOOM!

THANKS!

OK her is the story about Voom after the May31st promo is over.

They are licensing Dealers right now, I was able to get my Sat dealer to do my install next week because she already has her agreement with Voom. That is the good news now for the bad.

Starting June 1 you are going to have to sign a 2 year agreement to get the equipment at $9.95 mo. confirmed by Voom rep today. That is how all the new local dealers are going to make there money.

Get your systems now if you are on the fence. Also I ordered an extra receiver now even though I don't have my second Hi def. TV set yet. If you plan to be adding a second unit soon don't wait because you will have to sign a two year agreement later

So, if you want asecond reciever later you will then have to sign a two-year agreement.

Is that the confirmed policy?

Because, if many people here would really want a Voom DVR, then, jumping in now before you're really sold on Voom, is not that advantageous to them.

I don't know if Voom is successful or in demand enough yet to be demanding 2 year agreements, anymore than they could get away with the original high prices for the boxes.

So I suspect other deals are coming soon after they try this one. But I have no inside info here.

Just signed up on line for VaVaVoom pkg & my email confirming installation is addressed to some stranger, but has my email address in the path.?
It lists a Basic_2_Receiver_DBS and setup on 2 TVs. I ordered 1 unit for 1 TV. Strange. No mention of anything that says Voom as far as equipment, but the description looks like the agreement I've read on the SatGuys forum.
Can't get through to the installs number, but I assume I can fix it if the info is FUBAR from the 3rd party installers.

I've been with D for 10 years and 3 receivers. I'd love it if this waxes my current HD service from D. Time will tell.

The only way I could see many signing a 2 year agreement with them would be if they gave you the receiver for free without any monthly payment. Kinda like what the new Phantom gaming console is doing. You get the hardware for free, but you're stuck with them.

Go Broncos!

No PPV. The Cinema 10 are HD channels included in any VOOM package. In fact anything with the checkmark under the "VOOM" column is included on the VOOM Marquee (Basic) package.

Maybe I missed some of these details on their website, but as far as I can tell, Voom is relying on your ability to receive a good OTA signal for local channels. What happens if you're not in a good location? What type of OTA antenna do they offer? Will they provide an amp if the signal is not strong?

Anyone having a problem getting any local channels? Right now I can't get WB, and Fox is sketchy.

I would not consider Voom unless they offer NESN (which exclusively carries almost all RedSox and Bruins games).

I'm interested in your comments.

They provide you with a Channel Master amplified stealth antenna. If it doesn't they will upgrade you for free to momething like a Deep Fringe antenna.

Personal Video Recorder. Like a Tivo or ReplayTV unit. Voom does not offer one yet. But I guess you can now use a standard definition Tivo with the Voom receiver.

I'm considering getting VOOM or upgrading my external iScan Plus scaler to the iScan HD, but had a couple questions. Does anyone that has VOOM also have the iScan HD? Since a lot of the VOOM channels are movie channels I'm assuming that VOOM is just upconverting the DVD to either 720p or 1080i, so I'm wondering if the picture quality is similar to a DVD player that upconverts to 720p or 1080i (or a standard 480i DVD player upconverted with the iScan HD)?

If the above is true then all the SD channels on VOOM would be similar where they are just upconverting the original SD program, but I could do the same if I feed regular satellite or cable through a scaler. Can anyone comment if this is correct?

Besides these channels, which VOOM channels are actually filmed in HD? I assume all there VOOM original channels are, plus the HBO/Showtime/ESPN HD channels.
