I just got Dish Network installed and have the ViP 622 HD DVR Receiver. First thing I noticed was that both the video content and the Dish Network EPG (Program Guide) are being cut off at the bottom, left and top of the screen. The guide is cut off no matter what setting I use, and the video content for any of the HD channels are cut off as well. I have verified this on multiple channels and it is channel independent (as long as it is an HD channel). The SD channels do not exhibit this behavior.
I spent an hour on the phone with tier II support for Dish Network and they are going to have someone come out and try another box, but I want to know if anyone else sees this issue. I did a search and came up with nothing, but I am new here so I may have missed something.
If you have one of these boxes and have an HDTV, here is what you can check to see if this happens with you. Go to the Menu -> Preferences (8) -> Guide Display (2) and select "Extended - Partial guide with video". This will give you the most noticeable cutoff for the guide portion. Now get back to live TV and go to your Program Guide. If you have a 16x9 1080i TV with this box, and you have this same problem, you will see 6 complete rows of program guide info, and half of a 7th row.. the 7th row is cut off the screen. At least it is on my TV.
I have a Mitsubishi 55511 HDTV and have used other services, such as Comcast HD, TimeWarner HD and various DVD players, Xbox, etc.. and have not seen this overscan issue. I am convinced it is a problem with the box. Not only does the guide get cut off, but the HD content is cut off as well. At the bottom right of most channels, there is a logo (HGTV, ESPNHD, etc..) This logo is crammed at the very bottom right extreme on my TV, whereas on my Comcast HD box, this was not the case. Further, when I pause the HD content on my ViP 622 box, then hit MENU on my remote, to the right of the screen (in the menu) is a thumbnail of the current program I am watching. This thumbnail has the full area of content -- not cut off. So I know that the content is getting to my box from the satellite, but when I am watching the content full screen, it is being displayed too big and gets cut off.
Sorry for such the long post, I am trying to be as detailed as possible. If you have one of these boxes and have an HDTV 1080i at 16x9, please try the scenarios above to see if you have the same trouble. I greatly appreciate it.
My ViP 622 box has the following software / firmware version (hit menu twice to finde):
Software Version: L365RBDD-N
Smart Card ID (Line 2): DNASP206 Dsh 789
One thing I should add.. I am running through Component Video from the Dish ViP 622 box to my Onkyo TX-SR803 receiver, and from the Onkyo receiver to the 1080i input on my Mitsubishi WS-55511 HDTV. This is the exact same input and exact same cables that my previous Comast HDTV DVR box was using and this is the first I have seen this issue.
