Not sure if this would be more suited for the Tivo forums, but I will try it hear. Can you buy a new hard drive for this unit without haveing to go through Weeknees or PTupgrade? Unit just took a dump, I get power up and then DirectTV logo comes up and it stays on there and does not go away. Hard drive sounds like it could be fried, not sure and I am replacing the on board battery that is in the unit. Just wondering if anyone has tried to pull out one of the hardrives and try to do a repair on it. Thanks for any help or direction..

If you get a new drive, you need to image it first, the utilities and information should be available at tivocommunity or via google.

Matt
Please don't PM me with technical questions that should be posted in the forum.

mjones73: Thanks for the info, well I got the drive working that is, not in the Tivo unit itself, I can now access it and read and right to in, but now I get gray screen saying "powering up" thats it... I need to get the software installed on it otherwise it is PTV for a new upgrade hard drive, which is no biggie, at least I got this one to work with my computers now as a external drive.
