Hello All

I am thinking of building an HTPC for music only, however, I would like to run it without needing a monitor/TV to be connected to it all the time, just turn it on, a few clicks and you go. Is it even possible?

I could for example use Silverstone CW02 by itself, or combine it with something like the Squeezbox Duet. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Akko

A few clicks on what? I assume you don't mean with a mouse since there's no screen. You could remotely manage it from another PC, but if all you're looking for is a jukebox, I'd just get a Ipod 160 GB and be done with it - cleaner, easier, cheaper. Oh and portable...

My answer is the same as brianley's except instead of an Ipod, I would go with Sonos + a smallish NAS
same general reasons, somewhat different priority's... I don't need portable, but whole house audio is sweet... and the remote is somewhat ipodish...

NOTE: As one wise professional something once stated, I am ignorant & childish, with a mindset comparable to 9/11 troofers and wackjob conspiracy theorists. so don't take anything I say as advice...

Thanks for your suggestions. By a few clicks I meant the buttons and jog wheels on the front of some of the Silverstone cases. My aim is to have a box that I can turn on and using somthing like the iMON software and remote navigate to the music library.

I could also add the Squeezebox Duet for easier navigation.

Akko

The new Gyration remote has this but not out yet.

http://www.gyration.com/p-57-r4000-l...ic-remote.aspx

The R4000 allows you to control song selection and volume from another room, without line-of-site limitations and at a range of up to 100 feet

What's your goal? Whole house or just music for a single room? Is there any chance you want this HTPC to ever do anything else?

If all you want is music for a single room, and don't want to use the HTPC for anything else, then go with what brianley said, get an iPod. Some receivers have options for iPod docks that let the receiver's remote control it. For example, many Denon's support this. Get an RF remote, then you can control it from anywhere. You could also get a receiver with a 2nd zone.

If you go the Squeezebox Duet route, you don't need to spend the money on the Silverstone case. Build yourself a server in a cheap case and hide it in a closet. The Duet gives you full control over the Squeezebox receiver, which pulls the music from your server.

You also have the option of adding more receivers to expand to whole-house audio.
