I am just building a BluRay cabapable HTPC and I am hoping to reduce the number of units in my media centre by getting rid of my DVD player.

I have a lot of PAL discs which I still want to play through the HTPC BluRay player. I guess I could install a second - cheap - DVD rom player for those, but I wondered if there was a BluRay player that can handle all of these in one unit?

Yes, there is one:
LG GGW-H20L

PAL and NTSC DVD drive-writer
HD-DVD drive
BD drive-writer

You can find it out as just drive but i don't remember the model.

Can I just check that model number please?
I downloaded the product manual from the LG site and it makes no mention of region free DVD playback.

I just looked at Anydvd HD as an option and it looks like ita viable alternative.

The region is based off of the playback software, NOT the drive itself. If you want region free playback you'll need software like AnyDVD HD to remove the region coding.
