ffdshow is not a player, it is a series of codecs that is capable of decoding a variety of video and audio formats. To get ffdshow to work you need a directshow capable front end player such as media player classic or zoomplayer. It is these that create the filter graph to play a clip and give codecs like ffdshow a purpose. N.B. while ffdshow is good for some things its really bad for others i.e. VC-1 material. If I were you I would uninstall all the codecs on your machine and then just install:
1. Haali media splitter.
2. madflac decoder.
3. ffdshow video decoder (configured for h.264 & MPEG video streams only)
4. WMP11 (To get the WMVideo decoder DMO - need this for VC-1 playback, other decoders don't work).
5. AC3filter for vanilla DD/DTS tracks.
6. ffdshow audio decoder (don't actually need this but is useful if your playing many media types. Deactivate flac support in config).
7. A font end player i.e. MPC, Zoom etc (persional preferance).
That is all you should need to be in HD heaven. With regard to TMT, this has decoders built in for everything except flac. To get this to work with these types of HD files you MUST install madflac (it will only use madflac for some reason). Everything else i.e. video decoding, file parsing etc is done by the players internal filters. Note that TMT does have a few odd quirks tho ....with intel IGP's (mine is Intel G35 and has these problems) it will not show anything above 720p or any VC-1 material without swapping out two files with those from a Japanese version. I can supply them if that is your problem. TMT however should work easily as AbMagFab pointed out but I suppose it could have other HW issues, have you tried deactivating HA (If enabled) and doing everything in software. I need more info on your sys to be more helpfull ....sorry dude. Post back if you still having trouble.
TMT doesn't support chapters, only open source players seem to do this such as MPC. Was a little suprised myself but then again mkv support in TMT is still in its early stages so it should improve over tiem.
Download the newest version of eac3to and a trail copy of TMT and install them .....eac3to can now use the TMT audio decoder to do dts MA and its alot better than the old sonic decoder. Now does 7.1 as well
. If your still having trouble PM me with a sample of the file and I'll have a look at it for you. This does sound a bit strange ...maby its a bug with that perticular encode (some studio cannal files are not authored as they should for example
). Don't give up though, I have done over 50 movies and enjoy the freedom this has brought to me but I have had problem streams from time to time just like you.
