I thought the hold up was Dolby True-HD? I think they have the DTS-MA working already?

We probably aren't going to get any new news until next week when MyAV returns or this card is actually released in the wild. Until then I think this thread will just be a lot of speculation until then.

While we're waiting here's a recent Korean webpage mentioning the Xonar HDAV 1.3.
Let Google translate it and you will have a great day.

Hey guys, I'm back. So you can get rid of speculating. OK, the good news here is that I've got the final release of TMT and I'm gonna see what this final version can do tomorrow. Meanwhile Asus guys told me that this version CAN playback BD files from the HDD. Stay tuned... tomorrow will be a big day for me.

It will be a BIG day for us too if that version of TMT does what they say it will! It looks like they have a great product on their hands.

Also it looks like Auzentech has no idea what they are doing because they have canceled(oficially) their Prelude HDMI daughter card and it appears that their HDMI card might not support bit streaming now. Instead it will just support un-molested PCM which TMT already does for Windows XP.

Hopefully, everything goes well with your tests. Is there anyway you can test it with a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver? That receiver has a lot of HDMI issues and I would like to know if it will work with this card.

If you call:
- Upsampling to 96Khz.
- Playing windows sounds or other sounds at the same time.
- Adjusting the volume through windows.
"un-molested" then I don't want to know what molested is Those three points are the very definition of what molested is.

Hi I signed up today.
I am a 74 year old retired CBS Engineer.

I hope they release the xonar soon.
i'm running a asus p5e vm hdmi motherboard.
it has HDMI output from it's internal VGA which is Intel graphics
the sound is built in HD.
I'm running it in vista 64 as a second computer.It's loaded,Quad,Memory,
I'm using the Arcsoft total media extreme.
It run the blu ray image files from an external Hard Drive great.
But", it runs poorly in video,
I'm feeding this into a harmon Kardon AVR that has the upscaling chip for 1080p.
The reason i'm using the internal VGA HDMI is because it's the only way it will run in HDMI.
I have a XFXForce 8800 gtx 768meg ram.
but" it will not recognise it, NO way in HDMI.
I'll re install it when the Xonar comes out.
I have 3 HDMI inputs, one output HDMI to the monitor.
1) cable box (works great)
2) DVD upscalable player.(works great)
3) computer (a lot to be desired.)

The computer problem should be corrected once the xonar card is released.(hopefully)
Right now i have this all connected to a new 24" HD Gateway (HDMI) running it all in 1080p.
I also have two top of the line large HDMI sony HDTV's
This gateway is Great.
But,this Video card problem can drive you up a tree.
I'm hoping to correct this all with the xonar.

Hey myAV can you please confim if the xonar hdav has a built-in decoder for Dolby Digital and DTS either through its hdmi or optical input?

The xonar d2x does not have this feature. I think only the X-fi cards have this feature right now.

It relates to the original question i had:

There you go, I hope that clears it up for everyone

THANKS!!!!!

Yea I wrote that in too much of a hurry. TMT does pass through 96 Khz audio without downsampling or upsampling it. However, 48 Khz audio would be molested(upsampled).

As far as the other two points I believe that XP and Vista operate differently. Vista needs to operate in exclusive mode to have undownconverted audio. XP does not have an exclusive and non-exclusive mode like Vista. It always operates in exclusive mode.

Actually what is the difference between the application changing the volume and the operating changing the volume? Even in Exclusive mode with Vista you would be able to control the PCM volume with the computer right?

Can you also confirm that LPCM is output AS IS, without any upsampling or downsampling?

Thanks.

No, the whole point of exclusive mode is to bypass the windows mixer (molestation). If you can play other sounds & control the volume it means windows is touching the sound, it is matching the bit rate/resolution/volume etc. so different sounds can be output together at the same time. Basically it doesn't matter who touches the sound, tmt, windows or both, the sound is not pure.

To give you an example when you play dd/dts that's untouched. Windows/tmt have no control on bit depth/resolution/volume etc. What goes in comes out bit perfect.

In xp & vista you can use foobar2000 to get bit perfect sound for cds. You can even encode your blu-ray tracks to flac & use foobar2000 to play them, again bit perfect. It doesn't matter which mode you are using (asio/kernel streaming for xp or exclusive mode for vista) the end result is untouched sound whatever it is called.

When I play a cd in foobar2000 even if I have windows set as 5.1 48Khz, immediately after hitting play my receiver switches to 44.1Khz 2.0, the windows volume does nothing to the sound and all other devices are muted, just like when watching dd/dts. This output is bit perfect and matches that of a standalone unit bit for bit.

Now in an ideal world tmt/pdvd/windvd would use exclusive mode and output mlpcm as mlpcm, decode internally dts-hd ma/truhd and output as mlpcm. Basically what ps3 is doing. The sound would be bit-perfect in all formats and you wouldn't need hdmi 1.3 gfx/igp/audio card and an hdmi 1.3 receiver to enjoy the best formats natively.
Unfortunately we have to put up with crap like expensive hdmi 1.3 receivers/audio cards/mobos/specialized software/pap/pvap/etc. just to get what is possible with just an inexpensive hdmi 1.1 receiver & mlpcm igp or gfx.

This output is bit perfect and matches that of a standalone unit bit for bit.

I would argue then that Windows XP outputs bit perfect 96 Khz 7.1 Channel PCM with Arcsoft's TMT right now. Windows XP does not allow you to set a bit depth or Khz. It always uses whatever the Program decides to use.

Right now TMT will output 48 Khz PCM for DVD's and 96 Khz PCM audio for Blu-rays. It controls the audio exclusively. So if you have a 96 Khz audio disc(Chris Botti Blu-ray) then it is outputting the audio as is on the disc.

What is really interesting is that when you play a windows sound or even PDVD while using TMT is will output everything at 96 Khz! I even played a blu-ray in TMT and then shut down that program and started a different Blu-ray in PDVD. My receiver still showed that it was receiving a 96 Khz signal even though PDVD was playing it! I am really not sure how to explain that one!

I use an Ati Radeon HD3850 video card (not expensive!) and output through HDMI 1080p directly to my 52" Panasonic Viera Plasma screen or through my Onkyo TX-SR875 to the Panasonic (on screen AVR menu's).
In both cases brilliant video and never any problem.

Squallho1 is part of the team. He is testing XP. I am on Vista.I just finished the task and badly need some sleep. Wow, what a week! I 've got some good news here, As Asus guys mentioned, with this version of TMT you CAN open BD files from the HDD without any problems.I know people here have asked various questions from me and I will answer all of them when I have free time. So stick around,I will tell my new findings later. Sleep... Grrrr...

This is great news! Hopefully this indicates that asus should meet their Sept 10th launch date. I wonder which retailer in the US will get it first. I can live with the no Dolby TruHD for now as long as the other things work.

wow.. I followed up on that Taiwan site (www,myav.com.tw), and there's a new post on Sept 7th of how they tested Xonar HDAV1.3 on the Integra HDMI1.3 AVR.
I used babelfish so it's kinda hard to read but you can still catch the points:

I see that the Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe card has 7.1 analogue outputs. Does anyone know if it will be possible to send HD audio through the analogue ouputs?
My goal is to do all the processing in the HTPC and connect the soundcard directly to power amps.

Whoa! that's the proof right! Integra saying its getting dts master, so no possibility of downmixing or any kind of messing or degrading the signal, right? I mean, this is the gold standard we ahve been waiting for, right? So, in this scendario:

200 blurays ripped to hard drive media center system

My Movies

AnydvdHD-

Outputting to Denon receiver via hdmi-

Are we finally there? No more crap reduced quality sound?

Someone tell me it is finally here!
