I agree, the key is some sort of A/B switch that is IR controlled. Does such a switch exist?

yes agreed, ouch. Losing faith in the HTPC as a good solution for bluray playback, someone needs to release a simple and cheap solution to support the new audio codecs and losless audio. (Someone at my work is selling a ps3 for $500 AUD such a tempting simpler solution)

331.10 AUD = 267.20 USD. That Aussie price also includes a 10% Goods and Services tax. Deduct that, and it'd be around 242 USD. Here in the U.S. we'll maybe be looking at an MSRP of $249 (hopefully less) for the base card (ASUSTeK part # 2355). Who's to say what the daughter card will add to the deluxe version (ASUSTeK part # 2385).

Bad news is, prices are higher at a few other Australian resellers.

Asus seems to be a step closer to going live with their HDAV1.3 downloads. Now there's an intermediate step asking for an OS selection--yet the drop-down for making that selection contains no choices, and you can't get beyond that.

Yep, centrecom is where I've ordered mine from...and yep there is a bit of sticker shock with the price...but then being an "early" adopter has never been cheap - however sad it is that it has taken this long for the first bitstream solution to become available...

In my case I currently have a new house under construction and it includes a modest size home theatre room, so I am very keen to be able to pass bitstream from my HTPC to my AVR once it's all set up in the new house...plus that way I can right off the cost of the xonar as a construction cost

Overclockers.co.uk in the UK have it Pre-Order for £176.24, the description seems to be for the Deluxe version, which doesn't seem all that bad a price. If it is just for the basic version then I will probably have to think twice... and then just buy it anyway

£176.24 roughly translates to $300 but if you factor in how we get butt raped over here for just about everything, then I would guess US could cost anything as low as $250 - $200.

The only 7.1 analog switch box I've ever seen is the one that came with Creative's DDTS-100 decoder box. Unfortunately the switch-box isn't IR controlled (it just has a pull switch), and Creative are no longer producing the decoder box, so you'd have to get it second-hand. It's also a little expensive if all you want is the switch-box.

--edit--

Okay I found a 7.1 switch-box with IR (the Zektor MAS7.1), but with a price-tag of $599 it's a definite rip off. You could get a new 7.1 a/v receiver for less than that.

Things here (Netherlands), as far as novelties are concerned, really suck.
The Nl.asus.com site doesn't know anything about this card. As far as they are concerned it doesn't exist.
The last item under the "news" link is from 8/11 (of this year, no less ). Nor does any shop offers pre-orders on this puppy. So I don't know what the price in € will be and when it will be available.

But it's (Deluxe version) already on Ebay UK for the ridiculous price of 239,99
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-Xonar-HDA...07128001r35553

And here in Germany for de Luxe for prices between € 261 and € 277
http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/...luxe-asus.html

So basically, the best option for European customers is to buy it in the US, have it delivered at a friend and have him or her sent it over.
That's what I will do, given €->$ rate!

So is the card capable of this? thanks.

I apologize really, I must have missed your question. But I don't get your question. This card doesn't come with an SPIDF input however there is one HDMI input and that is for the video stream. So what exactly do you want know?

For some unknown reason, and one I do not want to end, companies sell the same product for far less money in the US.

It could be due to the lack of protectionist tarrifs we have, could be due to the larger quantity they can expect to sell, I do not know.

About 15 years ago, I was in Japan and thought I would replace my Casio watch. The watch cost $60 in the US, but cost $180 in Japan (after converting the Yen to US Dollars). Suffice it to say I did not buy one.

Also, Americans have odd magic price point numbers. We will buy a $199 item much faster than a $200 item.

A couple of questions:

5. Are you saying you have to create and mount and ISO to play from HDD? Or that you can also just open the folder structure and play the BD or HD-DVD from HDD?

And you can also confirm that LPCM via HDMI and anlaogue are both using PAP and therefore not downsampled?

Does this version of TMT use exclusive mode?

Cheers,

Adam

Thanks.

1.You can playback both BD files and ISOs.
2.Nothing is downsampled during playback, no matter analog or digital.
3.I did't check the exclusive mode.

Hi myAV

I have been following this thread with keen interest. What is the selling price in Taiwan? I will be in Taipei by the end of this month and am thinking to pick one up from there.

Can you recommend where I should go to buy these ASUS products?

Thanks for your response myAV. It states in the asus specifications page that you can use the line in/mic in for spdif input:

http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?mo...=150&l3=0&l4=0

But anyway i'm also interested in the hdmi input. I'll give a scenario to explain my question:

- Use ps3 as blu-ray player

- connect ps3 hdmi out -> asus hdmi in

- connect asus hdmi out -> tv hdmi in

- Play blu-ray movie and select DTS soundtrack

- Will the asus card decode the DTS soundtrack and output the sound to 5.1 analog outputs without the use of 3rd party software? i.e. the asus card decodes the dts soundtrack through its own drivers.

What I really want here is to NOT use a receiver/pre pro to do the audio codec decoding. I want the asus card to handle this on its own. So if the asus card can accomplish this, of course the next question for me is if the card can decode high def audio codecs like DTS-MA and DD-HD.

My experience is that things are a little cheaper in Japan when you take into consideration duty free and the exchange rate (last year it was great). I travel there at least once a year and just returned a couple of weeks ago so my expericence is fairly recent. The big problem with buying something there is that the on-screen menus are in Japanese (for many items) and the warranty is only honored in Japan. You can buy multi-language items that carry worldwide warranties but then the price is more than what you pay in the US. Even though I can get by with Japanese menus and work around the warranty through my wife's family it still isn't worth it at the current fx rate. The one thing that Japan offers is products that are not available in the US with more features.

hi, myav, your partecipation in this forum is fantastic!
can you say something about daughter card? can you use the card and the software making them work as pre/pro , connected analogically to the power amp?
this is the only ascpect of the card already unknown.
in your opinion, can this card substitute a pre/pro (you said you work for pioneer, so your opinion will be precious) ?

Wow you guys are fast... I just emailed my contact and he works for a biggest distributor in California, just few miles from Asus US headquarter in Fremont, CA, and they have no knowledge/part number about this card in their system. He is calling Asus this AM and check the stock. I hope they will have it soon and I will just drive down and pick it up.

I also, checked Tigerdirect, Newegg, BestBuy, Micro Center and Fry's and they all don't have it (yet).
