Can you post link to the other hdav thread?

Thanks in advance.

Asus HD3650 ATI video card, LG HD-DVD/Blu-ray/DVD writer. Amp: Onkyo 705

Installed Card into HTPC (Vista 32 Ultimate with Lastest updates & patches), HDAV 1.3 driver & TMT software off the supplied CD. (Neither driver, nor software loaded correctly & kept locking up and not responding)

I also tried this on a fresh install of Vista32 Ultimate, got a bit further but still no handshake via HDMI. (I did manage to get 48/16 analogue audio via the phono's, but that was about it)

I've tried XP today, and the drivers / software work. (I think?) I tried an audio CD in Win Media Player and the levels were moving in the Asus audio panel! So that was a good sign!!

But i still can't get the Onkyo to handshake, I tried my Sony DVD recorder and that did the handshake no problem. Worked with all the usual DVD audio formats.

I've tried all the suggestions on this thread and i'm still at a loose end?

Can someone guide me through the setup, to see if i've missed something?

I've tried both the CD driver & the beta one.

Otherwise this card is going back this week!!

Many Thanks

Cheers
Lee

(Edit: I've just managed to get it to handshake with the HDMI cable from my display. So it's sort of working, maybe it's a problem with Onkyo amps?)

What resolution and refresh rate are you running at?

Hi All,

I'd like to see if there is any interest in getting the two HDAV threads merged. I realize one was to discuss availability but this is getting ridiculous that we need to check two threads.

Anyone else want to see the threads get merged. Perhaps one of us can alert the mods for this if there is sufficient interest.

Thanks,
-Y

OMG... guys check this out.

You can buy the Asus HDAV 1.3 card shipped to the US for US$170.37 (US $243.39 - $73.02 cashback from Microsoft)

Here is how it works
So I called up the canadian store I bought the card from and told them about the Microsoft cashback deal if they put it up on ebay and I pay using paypal. They put up the listing on ebay and I bought it and saved me a nice chunk of change. They'll also refund back the previous order I did.

Here is a link on FW that explains the Microsoft cashback deal. Note the 30% won't stay like this. It has gone up to 35% though also gone down to 8%

Sounds like a good deal but I don't think I'd pay 5.00 for this card in it's current state/condition. Anytime you see a sound card with the words AV on it I would research it before you buy.

I got a 606 onkyo , 4870 ati card and a 656 40" samsung tv.

Have you downloaded/installed the beta drivers for xonar and arcsoft total mediaplayer from www.asus.com?

If you have those installed and running windows xp, then you should go to the hdmi tab in xonar hdav center and select 5.1 or 7.1 speakers and pcm 96 KHZ. In Arcsoft total mediaplayer go to setup and select hdmi out in audio. In Catalyst control center I got my tv setup as extended desktop, set it to either 1280x720@60hz or 1920x1200@30hz depending on 720p or 1080p movies. Whenever I get the enable hdmi sound error when playing a movie in my main desktop window, I just drag it to extended and bitstream is working.

Hope this helps

I really wanted to purchase this board because for me sound is a major part of the HTPC experience but after reading the horror stories I am wondering why any company would dare release it in such poor shape

This is the biggest screw up and biggest disappointment that I have seen with regard to the HTPC.

Really amazing....

A little over dramatic don't you think? When the final drivers come out and they still fail to deliver what they promised, then you can spill the can of drama. Remember that this is still in BETA.

Thanks Guys for your comments,

I've downloaded the drivers & TMT from the Asus site, I think the problem i had was a mismatch of drivers & TMT.

I'll try again later and un-install the current drivers & TMT, and replace with the downloaded versions from the Asus site.

I'll post my results later today.......

Cheers

Hmmmm. On the bad side, I can't seem to get hardware acceleration working (have an Asus EN8600GT Silent) - it always shows false under the Setup>Information tab in TMT.

Can others confirm that acceleration works for them?

On the good side, as I now have an hdmi 1.3 chain, it seems that lip sync has kicked in

Not sure it is worth the hassle to replace my vista install with XP...

I have to agree with the people who are complaining about the card.

The card has been released for sale, yet the drivers and application are still in beta. Beta != RTM. Beta is the stage PRIOR to Release To Manufacturing.

If they released the card with a huge "This product does not work as advertised" sticker on it, then I would not have any problems.

When they had only released it in Taiwan, I still had no problems, since Taiwan is often used as a large beta test bed.

I suspect the UK release was an accident. It does not make sense to release it in the UK and nowhere else (save Taiwan, of course).

Now that it is in Canada too, it is a bad thing.

Hi all!

Does somebody have more info about this new asus card?? I've been following this thread for a long time and waiting for the HDAV1.3 to release here in Spain. But now that it will finally be available here, it seems that the experiences for the owners are being quite bad... So I'm not sure to expend 200 for a card that is not working properly... But if the new card is audio only (not processing the video) and will not feature so many problems... Maybe it's worth to wait! If someone has more info, it will be welcome!

Thanx

We have no evidence that the current problems can be fixed with drivers. Unless you're willing to buy the card as-is, which means no Vista bitstreaming, no 24p, and video "enhancement" that can't be turned off, you should wait.

If you buy it now, you've been clearly warned and can't complain if these things never get fixed.

If they do get fixed with software, then you've lost nothing by waiting, and perhaps gained some additional options while you wait.

All these problems with hardware and software have made this easy for me. Two days ago I had a problem playing Iron Man. It played, but poorly. I realize this HTPC stuff is not for me. Too much b.s. required to get things to run. Too much money on things that may or may not work. Too much time spent tinkering when time should be spent enjoying.

My solution will be to go with one of the soon to be released stand alone players. They provide HDMI and analog outputs, decode the HD formats and hopefully won't give me headaches like a pc does with hardware, software, driver and windoze compatibility problems.

I'm glad all these problems happened before I dropped another $300+ on the Asus HDAV with analog out.
