Wait... does this have analog out? Or only HDMI?

I'm guessing if it does have analog out, sound will still be downsampled?

Is there any way to connect regular PC speakers such as Z5500s or Creative S750s to the card via HDMI to take advantage of the non-downsampling?

It does have analogue out via a break-out box.

Why you want non-downsapling audio with PC speakers? Those speakers are unable to reproduce hi-fi audio at all

Ok take 300...

The DD 640kbps track sounds average, the TrueHD track sounds about the same, yet the LPCM track sounds a LOT better (this is on my current Z-5300 speakers, analog out).

Why would the LPCM track sound so different from the TrueHD? Probably because PowerDVD screws around with TrueHD and makes it sound not-so-good... so anything to fix that would be welcome. I dunno if it has to do with downsampling or not, but there is a massive difference when switching between the two.

So am I correct in thinking that PowerDVD will only not-downsample with HDMI, yet using analog on this card it will?

I think it is worthwhile to mention Auzentech's link with Creative. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the drivers come from Creative, not Auzentech. The DSP chip, of course, is Creative.

Based on some pretty bad experiences with Creative X-Fi drivers I would caution potential adopters to carefully evaluate the quality of the drivers and Creative support before purchase.

I would not buy the product with buggy drivers that will be 'fixed in the next driver release'. Make sure it does everything they say it will perfectly before plunking down your cash.

I own an HDAV and have tested LPCM vs Bitstream and cannot hear the difference between the downsampled LPCM and DTS-MA. This is on pretty good audio gear (~£5k). I would makes sure you test you theory on a number of soundtracks before deciding for sure there is a problem with TrueHD vs LPCM (which by the way will both be downsampled anyway).

It is more likely to be a difference in the master for each recorded track or a setting in PDVD or your PC that an audiable difference between two identical tracks.

Save you money mate, seriously

Hmm well it seems that with all of Warner's movies at least, if they only have DD and 16-bit TrueHD, I can't tell the difference between the two. If it has DD and 16-bit LPCM though (ie. Blood Diamond), there is always a noticeable difference. The same goes with other releases like The Patriot.

One film that had no difference between the LPCM and TrueHD though was Spider-man 3, they both sounded identical on that.

With HD-DVD it's different again, there's no pause when switching between DD+ 384kbps and TrueHD on titles like Bourne Ultimatum or the DD+ 640kbps and TrueHD on the Matrix movies, and it's as though the same track keeps playing.

So random...

EDIT: Also I have no problem with DTS-HD High Resolution or Master Audio tracks, they all sound great, and I've probably heard over 50 with DTS-HD... it's only TrueHD where the problem seems to lie on certain titles (mainly Warner's).

I'll be getting Gigaworks S750 speakers within the next few days (supposedly a lot better than my current Logitechs), I'll see if anything's different with those.

I owned both the Logitech and Creative Labs S750 and the S750 absolutely blow the top of the line 5.1 Logitech's away in sound. The Logitech's look better, but the S750 7.1 system was much more impressive sound wise.

@ROBSCIX: not sure why you are defending Auzen. Tell it like it is: they are a company that has announced products which never come to market, and their service for the products that are actually released is poor (referring to my experience with the xfi prelude/vanished xtension din) .

I don't understand what your problem is with ROBSCIX, he has a better understanding on most on what these cards can do (being a reviewer) and if he has been happy with his experiences with Auzen then he has every right to say so.

He also provides a lot of insider information on a lot of different hardware so constantly jumping on him because you don't happen to agree with his comments is only likely to be negative for the community in general.

As far as Auzen bashing is concerned I understand why some people are unhappy having bought Preludes with the hope of the add-in board appearing but development takes a lot of time and markets can change in the meantime.

My own view on the add-in card is that if it had arrived 6 months ago it would have had a place but not now as it would never have provided PAP for analogue output and this is the kind of functionality people desire. For them to continue investing in a product that is no longer as desirable would not make sense.

The fact they are offering a discount for Prelude owners (regardless of whether they only bought the Prelude for the HDMI daughterboard or not) is a great financial commitment and a credit to them as a company in my opinion.

I am not saying that everything is rosey with Auzen and understand why people are upset but what is your alternative? Asus? Well as an owner of the HDAV1.3 I can tell you that I am not particularly happy with them either, as their product is not yet fit for purpose and I have RMA'd it back as such.

The fact that a huge company like Asus can't get this hardware working should give you some idea of the difficulties a minnow like Auzen must be facing.

I am still looking forward to seeing what this card can do when it comes out and whilst I don't expect to see any of you Auzen-haters telling us you bought one, if it does do what the Ausus still can't after a month at market I will not be suprised there will be a quite a few people changing their tune.

/end rant

Adam

Can you tell us what companies? Are these TrueHD and DTS-HD Master bitstreaming cards too? Also, do you know anything about a rumored Xonar card that will dispense with the Splendid HD video processing?

Without going into long explanations.
If I can post any info about any upcoming products I will post it to the audio forums as soon as I can.

Pretty thoughtful comments there, maybe the current economic climate is playing a part in the delay also.

After the failure i had of the Asus HDAV card with poor drivers and all, I'm interested in this product.

But again i'm sure it'll be down to driver issues, which make or break this card.

So my money is either on this card, or going for the new Nvidia 9300 / 9400 IGP mainboard instead!

Let's hope they get it right this time, but as the comments so far i can't see a small company like Auzentech taking on Asus for a place in the HD audio card business?

Ah well time will tell..........

Just my thoughts!

Cheers

Auzen X-Fi HomeTheater 7.1 Update!

For anyone waiting to see what this card does will have to keep waiting.

I emailed the AuzenTech, Inc. "SupportTeam" asking for any information and this is their response:

First of all, thank you for your kind interest in our product line.

It is scheduled for November, and the price will be around $249. We will post the specific information as soon as possible.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to let us know.
Sincerely,
Support Team
AuzenTech, Inc. (www.auzentech.com)
USA tel 408.727.6212/ fax 408.727.6275/

So there you have it. They probably are fighting with the same problems that the Asus card is...mostly correct drivers I would think. Especially Vista driver support. Probably don't want to face the same slack as Asus so they are holding off until it actually works. Good thinking!!!

Granted the analog out section will be quality, and I guess this will also be the only solution for gamers who want pure LPCM w/ EAX5 (for when DTS connect doesn't cut it).

But with the lack of integration between powerDVD and any of the Front ends and the dropping prices of 2.0 profile stand alones it's becoming increasingly hard for me to justify the exsitence of these cards at these pricepoints. Even when this card comes out there will be all the issues with repeaters, 24p, ect.. A SA player just works.
