The Marantz SR5003 EDID is fine with no TrueHD or DTS HD SAD issues, so you shoud bitstream just fine.

My guess is that you need to uninstall/install the ATI drivers but by cleaning old traces with DriverCleaner or DriverSweeper. This should deal with your DVI issue with your PC monitor.

I have the same issues as user Ottelo with a Asus EB1501 ION 330 system. Only 2 canal sound true HDMI on Windows 7 32b, no matter what I try. I assumed that my Asus could only give 2 channel sound by HDMI.

My setup is a Yamaha RX-V465 AV receiver and my TV is a Samsung Plasma PS50B650. The connection goes from HTPC > Receiver > TV by HDMI (1.3)

I've included the output file from Moninfo.

Hope you can help me with this one...

My setup is a Yamaha RX-V465 AV receiver and my TV is a Samsung Plasma PS50B650. The connection goes from HTPC > Receiver > TV by HDMI (1.3)

I've included the output file from Moninfo.

Hope you can help me with this one...

That capture is only 128-byte so no audio data. Anyway, have you checked that the Yamaha is set to NOT repeat the TV EDID audio specs? That's a typical problem. This is an HDMI setting (in my DENON is "AMP").

Ok, now with media running on the background.

Do you get more usable info from the txt file?

Oh, that one is fine, and of course it shows only one Audio SAD for 2-LPCM.

But, did you check the Yamaha HDMI setting that I mentioned? Or, can you set your HDMI audio to 5.1 or 7.1 in Windows?

I really doubt that the problem is EDID related, but if the Yamaha HDMI is set to pass-through the TV audio (or to repeat the TV EDID specs) the HTPC will only be enabled for 2-LPCM.

The HDMI trough light is off so I assume that is not the case.
The HDMI info under Windows 7 shows only 2 channel and can't be changed but my computer hardware and OS is almost equal to that of user ottelo and he had the same issues with the HDMI sound.

No, you must enter the Yamaha HDMI setup and check for the HDMI value that specifies for TV audio passthrough.

If the issue is not there we can try the EDID override route (it seems the Nvidia ION chipset can be EDID overriden? I'm not sure) for which I would need the full 256-byte Yamaha EDID too.

Ok, I think I understand what you mean now.
I've disabled the HDMI Audio AMP+TV and set it to AMP only. Now sound volume can only be controlled by the amp not by my DVB-tuner anymore.
I've also disabled the HDMI video/audio signal will still be active when the receiver is set to standby, that's the pass trough I assume, I earlier saw the pass light come on and that stays off right now.

But now my wife is watching TV and she is the boss when she's not asleep so I will call back later with (I hope) the correct info regarding the amp.

No matter how this ends, your effort is being appreciated.

Chacked the Yamaha EDID and it's repeating the Samsung base block perfectly, and the audio block is complete, with all available audio modes (meaning that the real-time EDID is being detected fine), so you don't need an EDID override (the HDMI audio driver should allow 5.1 and 7.1 now). Set the Yamaha HDMI to "AMP" and it's done.

Ok, to let you know.

5.1 HDMI audio is working now.

With TotalMedia Theatre 3, I get DTS and Dolby Digital (DD) on my RX-V465 display. The same with PowerDVD 10.

Under MediaPortal, when using Win7codecs v247, I get 5.1 PCM audio on my display when playing MKV's and Divx but no sound when playing media containing DD sound. I've used SAF 4.00 before the Win7codecs but couldn't get any sound at all under MP, whatever setting or codec I've tried. So de-installing SAF and installing Win7codecs give a better result but still no complete solution. I keep trying though.

When HDMI was still 2-channel I had no issues with hearing the sound at all, even with SAF 4.00, and I could see and hear every media under MP but just with 2 channel audio.

Oh, one thing more. In my HDMI config under Windows 7 it shows only "Dolby Digital" and not the list Encoded formats showing in the picture below. Could this be correct?

You can passthrough 5.1 DTS (and DD of course) so ignore that info window.

That's correct but still no DTS-HD / TrueHD even when the source has that stream. Could this still be a handshake problem?
Why there is only DD in my picture and why is there a whole list of encoded formats in the other picture?
How and by what does Windows (7) fills that info?

The Nvidia ION chipset does not have TrueHD nor DTS HD audio capabilities. Right now only IGP capable of bitstreaming those is Intel Clarkdale.

The realtime EDID is just fine. It has 2 AUDIO SADs: 6-AC3 and 2-LPCM. Whatever your problem is, it's not EDID related. Also, I'm not sure that the ION chipset can be EDID overriden.

Maybe by asking you direct questions your setup will be clearer.

You have your POV ION connected directly on your TV, not on a separate audio receiver, and with HDMI only?

What software are you using for video playback (which OS and media_player) and do you have your OS configured that audio must be played back trough HDMI?

TV's normally only support AC-3 audio through the tuner. I have never seen one that supports AC-3 on an HDMI input.

Why don't you connect the POV by toslink audio direct to the amp and let AC3/DTS audio run that way?

The registry-active is only 128-bytes so you won't see the audio block there, which is in the next 128-bytes (extension block).
