Hi Tulli,

You seem to be the resident EDID expert. I would be most appreciative if you could merge the attached inf files for me. I've had to switch from the Realtek HDMI driver to the ATi HDMI driver due to the Realtek version corrupting normal Windows sounds after Reclock has been used.

As many others are experiencing the ATi driver isn't too great when it comes to the order in which you turn your devices on. Also I've noticed that Catalyst Control Center doesn't let me select 23Hz (23.976) any more - when I do and press apply it jumps back to 24Hz. Could this be an EDID issue and do you think an override is likely to fix it?

Cheers in advance.

My old graphics card (Radeon 4350) transmits a desired signal that is being recognized by my TV as a "PC Signal," while my new graphics card (Radeon 5770) is (very likely) transmitting something else, which is not recognized as a "PC Signal" and is displaying blurry image.

I have attached the .INF output from MonInfo and a screenshot of the PowerStrip "Advanced Timings" for my old graphics card, which I would like to ensure are used with my new graphics card via an EDID override. Please let me know if you need any other info!

Any help you can provide would much appreciated.

That's a 128-byte only capture (only base block). I could go ahead and mod it according to your Powerstrip timings but a full 256-byte EDID is recommended for the override.

Follow instructions from link in my sig. You need to run Moninfo latest version either as administrator, or with UAC disabled.

If you're running moninfo as required and still get only the first 128-bytes then a driver issue is possible. If so download and run following program and post log:

Hmm ... will have to recheck 23hz on my system but have not noticed any problems so far. I edit the .xml profiles and it works for me. Have you already tried that?

Thank you both! I've attached a new .INF capture. I think I may have forgot to run MonInfo as admin before. Please let me know if this contains everything.

Ok, according to that Powerstrip screen we have:

Pixel Clock: 148.5
HORIZONTAL VERTICAL
Active Pixels 1920 1080
Front Porch 88 4
Sync Time 44 5
Polarity + +
Back Porch 148 36
Thus:

H Blank = 88 + 44 + 148 =

180
V Blank = 4 + 5 + 36 = 45
H Sync Offset = 88
V Sync Offset = 5
H Sync Time = 44
V Sync Time = 5
H Image Size = 16
V Image Size = 9 ) Here's the EDID Manager with the new values added:

I attach the new monitor driver.

You were right, as you can gather from the custom mod above: Pixel Clock must be manually entered. Sorry about that ... a memory lapse ...

No I've not tried editing the ACE .xml profiles - is there a guide where I could read up on that?

Set CCC Display properties to 24hz and save profile:
  1. Go to Profiles Manager
  2. Select "all Catalyst Control Center settings"
  3. Save to profile name

Now edit the .xml file generated for the profile under

[your user directory]\\AppData\\Local\\ATI\\ACE\\Profiles (You must set the option to show hidden files for Windows Explorer)

Look for a line like this one

"
"

Replace that "24" with "23" there, save and apply.

Thanks Tulli! I was able to install the custom driver but unfortunately it didn't fix my problem. Something about the signal being output by my 5770 still isn't matching the signal being output by my 4350. I'm just about out of ideas.

Maybe a defective card then (just took a look the other thread). As you already get 1:1 pixel mapping I see no reason why text should be "blurry" as you show there (are you sure you're getting 1:1 pixel mapping?)

Yeah, I think it's time to RMA it. I don't really see anything else I can try. I've tried switching the input. Also, if I swap out the 5770 for the 4350, without changing inputs, the picture is fine.

My worry is that the card is not "defective" but for whatever reason is transmitting the video signal differently than the 4350, which is picked up by my TV as a "PC Signal," even though the Bravia manual states that 1080p HDMI signals from PCs will be seen as "Video Signals."

The only other thing I can think of trying would be to edit a 4350 PowerStrip settings file to work with the 5770, ensuring the output settings are identical, but I don't even know if that's possible.

But with 1:1 pixel mapping by itself text should look fine. Are you sure that you're really getting 1:1 pixel mapping?

Well I was coming back to do this but I see Tulli took care of it (thanks once again).

The EDID override accomplishes the same thing that Powerstrip does so if the override didn't work, I would not expect Powerstrip to help.

I'm at a complete loss and RMAing may be the only answer (unless Tulli can think of something I'm missing). I do agree with Tulli that there does seem to be some scaling going on somewhere but why that would be I don't know.

I'm not sure about anything with this graphics card anymore.

I can say the 1:1 pixel mapping option (Full Pixel) is set on my TV, as can be seen in this image.

I just re-ran a 1:1 pixel test image, swapping out my video cards between tests, and "mounting" my cell phone a few inches away from the screen. I can't say the phone didn't move at all between shots, but it couldn't have moved more than 1cm at most. I took 2 shots of the screen for each video card, 1 with the camera in its "resting position" propped in place, and the other making a tiny adjustment (1-2 degrees) to push it parallel to the TV. As you can see, the pixels are more defined with the 4350. This is not an artifact of the poor quality camera, because the same is true when I look at the pixels up close.

4350 #1 and 4350 #2

5770 #1 and 5770 #2

If you zoom in and toggle between them, you can really see the difference.

Thanks again so much, Tulli and Vladd! You two are the best! I'm going to take the discussion of my particular issue back to the thread I started, so I don't clog this one up. I did uncover something interesting while digging through the registry settings for the 4350 and 5770. The 5770 contains quite a few additional registry keys and settings that the 4350 does not. Many seem to relate to how it interacts with EDIDs and HD resolutions. Here's a link to that particular post.

Maybe there are good reasons for all the complexities they added behind the scenes to their cards, but it really seems to me that ATI forgot both the rule of KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If I can't get this working, I think I'm going to RMA the card and sell the unopened replacement to fund an nVidia card; though I'm not sure whether or not they are any better...

Hi,
I have a denon avr 3311 and a jvc rs35 projector.
I've attached the edids.

I have an ati hd5450 outputting to the denon which outputs to projector.

I have encountered an issue where i was watching a bluray with tmt, bitstreaming the dts-hd track, i press the media center button to get back to 7mc and all of a sudden i get this static/hiss on my speakers. I had the sound turned up loud so it was pretty loud.

i have no idea if this is an edid issue but i would feel much better with a proper edit override! Thanks in advance!

I use a monitor (VGA) and projector (HDMI) from a 5450 card. Cat 10.6 will only let me select 1920x1080 with refresh rate of 20, 24, or 30. I need to use 59 with the monitor. Will this work if I follow the steps above?

Hi Tulli, I was hoping you might be able to assist me also (please).

I have a 1080p Samsung LCD (model LNT4671F) and Onkyo TX-SR606 AVR. My HTPC stays connected to the AVR no problem w/ video or audio. In other words, I can reliably get True HD and dts-HD MA without issues. However when I turn off the AVR for a period of time (~5 mins or overnight), once I turn it back on, it displays the NO SIGNAL message. Am forced to cycle power on my HTPC w/ ATI 5570 video card.

Sometimes, despite AVR saying NO SIGNAL, I can leave HTPC running with AVR and 1-3 mins will pass and the AVR will change from NO SIGNAL back to normal, but this is rare. And the longer the AVR stays powered off. the more likely I'll be required to power cycle the Win 7 HTPC.

I tried to use moninfo.exe to merge these two .INF files but perhaps I've done incorrectly or there's more to it? I loaded the TV.inf and merged the AVR real-time info to it (saving a newTV.inf) before updating driver of generic monitor in device manager. I even tried to use an HDMI Detective Plus without success, perhaps because I need a hybrid of TV and AVR detail in the .inf and the detective was only able to program single EDID? when i put detective between my HTPC and AVR with the AVR's EDID programmed to it, I had same issue. This is why I am thinking you might be able to help.

Thank you in advance!

Odd ... both EDIDs have the same extension block! So you could perfectly use the Samsung EDID you posted.

You might need to clean up monitor drivers (see uninstall section in my sig), so as to remove every registry entry in your system, and then apply the Samsung EDID above.

Or - let's hope not! - you might be runnning into HDMI issues with the Onkyo 606 which IIRC tends to fail after a year or so.

Tulli - first of all, thanks for your help... my Onkyo 606 works reliably w/ all devices except my HTPC with a new ATI 5570 video card (it behaved same w/ an ATI 4550 prior):

1.) Is it unusual for both a TV (display) and AVR to have the same block in EDID? Obviously the display would have it because it's possible to connect directly to TV w/o an AVR. But when I captured the AVR EDID, I had HDMI from PC to AVR to TV. Didn't know whether the PC could see beyond the AVR to the TV (or does the AVR retrieve some data from TV?).

2.) It appears as if your suggestion (clearing all monitor drivers from device manager and updating to Samsung EDID) may be working. but when i power on the AVR now, my Win 7 media center is dropping back from 1920x1080, 60 hz to 1024x768 resolution. This could be a good start. are there any tricks to make 1920x1080 stick?

Hi guys!

I have a SHARP LC-52DH77 and a DENON AVR-2807. The latter doesn't support bitstreaming of DTS-MA HD or Dolby HD but it does support highres LPCM (works fine from the PS3). Therefore I assume I can't choose the EDID from a similar AVR since it's not bitstreaming I'm trying to resolve.

I've been able to extract the EDID's and I'm able to see that it lacks (according to the EDID) support for 192kHz multichannel LPCM. Unfortunately I don't understand how to edit the EDID and add support for this.

I would be VERY happy if someone took pity and helped me out here. Either by explaining how to or help me by doing it :-)

Have attached EDID's extracted with both GetEDID and MonInfo just to be sure.

Did you remove all greyed-out monitor drivers on Device Manager?

According to the 2807 EDID it has LPCM/2-channel up to 192khZ & LPCM/6-channel up to 96kHz capabilities.

(153-156)\tAudio Data Block

Audio Format #1 : LPCM, 8-Channel, 24-Bit, 20-Bit, 16-Bit
Sampling Frequency : 96 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz

(157-160)\tAudio Data Block

Audio Format #1 : LPCM, 2-Channel, 24-Bit, 20-Bit, 16-Bit
Sampling Frequency : 192 kHz, 176.4 kHz, 96 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz

(161-164)\tAudio Data Block

Audio Format #1 : DTS, 6-Channel, 1536 k Max bit rate
Sampling Frequency : 96 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz

(165-168)\tAudio Data Block

Audio Format #1 : AC-3, 6-Channel, 648 k Max bit rate
Sampling Frequency : 96 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz

FWIW, here's the modded EDID + 192khz for LPCM/6-channel
