Well after seven years I finally dumped my Aud2 card because of the GT 220's ease of use. First off I don't care about getting HD bitstreaming I didn't buy the card for that. My decision was pretty straight foward when I was contemplating between ATi 5xxx series or the GT220. My 2600 card I'm running in my media box always had switching issues not to mention the dreaded EDID bug and bsod's. And I always seem to be fussing with the ATi hardware in one way or another.

The GT 220 was EZ as pie to set up and I can switch from any input on my TV and it will reconnect in a heartbeat. I can also pass audio to my TV without having the SC-07 being on late at night. It bitstreams DD just fine but that is not what I'm using it for, strictly 8 channel 24/7 LPCM! This way there is no user input to any of my players be it MPC-HC or WinDVD for the dts tracks when using TV speakers (Toshiba LX177) can't decode dts but does DD.

When Cyberlink and ATi get things straight and proper I might go back to ATi. But for right now I'm more than happy with the GT 220's performance and it just plain works without having to cut off chicken heads. And with the WinDVD 2010 player I have no issues with bitstreaming DD or 8 ch LPCM and it plays better than my third party players due to no audio drops. And it also doesn't drop out of Aero which is a biggie for me.

My oldie but worthy AMD rig specs:

AMD DFI 939 LAN Party, X2 3800 @ 2.5, 2 gigs ram W7 x64 GT 220 via SC-07 receiver, work and play perfect together. Not even a glitch....

Happy GT 220 owner for now....

Super silent I can't hear it at all, my system is pretty noisy anyway due to the crappy OCZ PSU they replaced over a year ago. I had a really good one from the early days of OCZ with pod controls. They EOL'd the thing and gave me a craptacular Stealth PSU.

Ordered a Cooler master silent PSU from Amazon believe it or not. First time I bought anything for a PC there but they were cheaper than the newegg with free shipping and no tax!. Oh yea most important 30 day free returns with a prepaid label.

I've been ordering from amazon for the same reasons for some time now. The egg just can't compete with their shipping and tax to cali.

Newegg just lost another sale from Amazon. Building a 7 system for a client and saved him 20.00 going through Amazon. The only thing that isn't free shipping is the blk edition Callisto chip from Tiger Direct but still no tax. Newegg came to 333.73 Amazon 313.73 and if anything is DOA free returns!

Just installed my Cooler Master PSU finally some peace and quite. OCZ replacement PSU goes into the PC bin, the slightest load would spin up the fan so loud it would put out a high pitch that would drive me crazy. This was a OCZ Stealth Extreme so stay far away.....

I ended up getting the Asus gt 220 1 GB for $50 (after rebate) from the egg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...sus%20gt%20220

Removed stock fan and replaced it with a 3 pin 40mm that I could spin down via a fan controller and now is effectively silent and low profile (comes with low profile bracket).

idles in the low 40's and while playing back BD, hits low to mid 60 - high of 65 with ambient in the upper 30's.

What 40mm fan did you use and did you just screw it in the heatsink like the stock fan that came with the card?

Which aftermarket fan did you use?

It's a driver issue, so yes, any Nvidia card with hdmi will have that issue - although things are improving. Check the relevant threads.

Scythe Mini Kaze 40mm. A very quiet 40mm fan. One doesn't even have to use a fan controller on it.

It doesn't fit the same space as the OEM, I simply screwed it into the OEM heatsink over the space used by the OEM fan.

Can someone test the ffdshow bitstream for DD+ with the these cards?

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.ph...67#post1349867

I remember when I had my 2xx card the DD+ was listed in the supported formats for the Windows Audio device.

Please explain your claims in more detail. I have a GF9300 in Windows XP and have no such issues.

Has anything changed recently? When I previously they said it was only for the ATI 5xx0 cards and the Xonar cards.
vladd's Avatar vladd 06:06 PM 12-07-2009
That's all that has been tested but the latest build should work for any card that has the HD formats listed in the "Supported formats" section of the playback device properties. DD+ is not working on the 5xxx series but that is the only format that isn't reported by the Windows Audio device as being supported. I know the NVidia 2xx series has it listed which is why I wondered if it worked on those.
