Ok. Thank you, JJ, for all the factfinding. I know it's part of your job (and part of your hobby no doubt), but I appreciate the hands on stuff.

I just pulled the trigger. (Might as well buy a local CPU/GPU and PC, as I'm an Austinite too.)

Dell has their Bing Cashback at 20%

Hey everyone,
I just joined the forums and wanted to point out what IBNobody said. Dell has their Bing Cashback at 20% right now and that is on top of a Zino deal they have.

Here is the deal: slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1697751&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SlickdealsnetForums-9+%28Hot+Deals+-+SlickDeals.net+Forums%29

Here are the specs:

Price: $349

PROCESSOR: AMD Dual Core Athlon X2 3250e (1MB L2, 1.5GHz)
OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
MEMORY 3GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 2 DIMM
HARD DRIVE: 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
VIDEO CARD: ATI Radeon HD 4330 512 MB
WIRELESS: Dell 1397 802.11 b/g Wireless Card
SOUND: Integrated 2.1 High Definition Audio
KEYBOARD: Dell USB Entry Keyboard
MOUSE: Dell USB Optical Mouse

You can upgrade to the 6850e for $50 more instead of the usual $110.

Just add http:// in front of the link since I can't post URL's yet

which one???
1. Amazon Acer Aspire AS1410-8414 $229

2. Dell Zino HD similar price with similar config, on top of the 20%, Zino will be 50 bucks cheaper than Acer....I have order Zino already.

Man, I've just ordered one with the blu-ray player, the faster CPU, 4330, 4GB RAM, Wireless Dual N, etc... Less than $500 shipped after Bing CB. (I hope MS comes through again! The checkout was kinda shoddy, with no CB mentioned anywhere... I only saw it posted at the very beginning... No confirmation email yet either.) Also, I hope I'll get it before Xmas (so far they promise it by the 17th).

So now my Popcorn Hour C-200 goes onto eBay. I THINK that I am rather an HTPC guy... Plus that little machine cannot compete with what I've just bought...

Yipee!

Too many to list. ;)

Yeah. No kidding. This thing crushes my current "HTPC", the PS3.

When it becomes obsolete itself, it should be small enough to stash somewhere and be used as a torrent server or something.

EDIT:

Dell deal is dead. Cashback is still going on though.

Got my order in before the deal went dead. Here is what I got:
6850e, 3GB RAM, Radeon HD 4330, 320GB HD, Windows 7 and Wireless N for $446.23. After BCB it should be $356.99. I am excited.

I had been looking at the Asrock and Revo but the Zino is better spec wise. Thanks Java Jack for all the info!

Rasputin, what's your delivery date? That's a pretty sweet deal...I might want to jump on that too if the dates aren't too pushed out.

Im in malaysia, didnt pull any strings but i gone ballistic once they pushed my edd to 16 dec from the original 25 nov. Sent them an email but didnt change anything. Reached them via phone and indeed my unit is already with local courier since 20th, but scheduled for delivery this monday since we have a public holiday friday.

Their online tracking sucks, their email complaint suck, better to go direct to a cs via phone for status. My online status is still in transit with 16 dec edd. Yea rite.

It's right on the tech specs page for the ZinoHD. Just noticed it myself.

They are counting the HDMI audio as 5.1.

Incidentally, the tech specs page may be out of date in other areas. It lists "Ubuntu 9.04", but I'm willing to bet that a version will ship with Ubuntu 9.10 UNR. (Netbook Remix).

I think that because the manual page lists an Ubuntu starting guide, and that guide looks like it is for 9.10 UNR.

They are counting 5.1 over HDMI. I had requested that they update that to avoid confusion as too many people thought that the Zino HD only supported 2.1 analog audio.

This deal with the Bing cashback appears gone, or at least I cannot find it following the instructions given previously.

Java Jack (or anyone else with a Zino HD):

Do you happen to know what ethernet chip this machine uses? It sounds like a great quiet/low power backup/NAS box for OpenSolaris/FreeNAS/etc, but some cheap NIC chips have bad performance/high cpu utilization/etc.

Could you look under device manager and see what it says? I'm hoping the answer isn't "realtek"...

Thanks!

Hello,

I bought Zino with 6850e and ATI 3200 few weeks back. Can I upgrade now to the 4330, or any other MXM? What P/N should I buy?

I'm planing on playing 1080p connected to Onkyo RC-180. Feedback welcome!

I believe the answer is that you can not upgrade once you've bought the system without the 4330. You get a different motherboard and it does not have the MXM connector.

Happy owner of an HP PL-4260N that I won from HP in an online sweepstakes!

Thanks for the tip. Bought the Zino a week or so ago, and been putting together the peripherals.
I'm new to this htpc world, so pls excuse if this is an ez or stupid question: If I want to watch ota hd and record another ota channel at the same time, I'll need another tuner, no? This would be a fairly rare occurrence, but I'm thinking for $29 I might buy another of these Liquid TV deals, for the haupage tuner. So I'm looking for verification that I could plug 2 tuners into USB ports on the Zino and WMC would recognize and work w/ the 2 tuners. If yes, my concern is running out of USB ports - need to get a remote too - but that's easily overcome.
Thanks.

you can have up to 4 of those tuners...zino only has 2 back usb plugs though. suggest getting an usb hub unless you want them sticking out the front

jj: you said that the drive is just a standard slim factor. you think any slim factor drive would fit? asking b/c from the pics it looks like the cover of the tray is slightly curved.

Yeah the deal was dead a couple hours after it started. I do believe Dell's Bing Cashback is still at 20% plus the Zino is supposed to start at $199 for Black Friday according to leaked info.

So with it starting at $199 and BCB @20% you can still save some money. Either that or just wait for another sale or until the Zino makes its way to the Outlet.
