Tulli, the Ruby does not seem the problem, as the denon is hooked on the Panasonic plasma. Files play fine, and I only needf it for tweaking and sometimes satelite tv.

No the problemis that the card output only 30 hz, except when I link it to the Ruby that is working well in 60 hz, by the dvdi-hdmi adapter output.

I will grab the edid, if you want, but I don't know exactly whazt I have to do for that. The realtek 2.39 is installed. Maybe I installed it twice, and maybe deleted it, i can try to install it again.

I like my HT, wine and pretty girls. But...am I the only one

OK, so problem is the Panasonic, which is weird indeed. And you get choppy sound when bitstreaming on WinDVD2010 with the realtek installed? Makes no sense to me.

It wouldn't hurt to do a proper reinstall of ATI 9.12 hotfix, Realtek 2.39 and then apply the EDID override.

Use Drivercleaner or Driversweeper to clean old traces would be also recommended.

To capture the Panasonic EDID it is enough to plug it to the PC and then grab the real-time EDID with moninfo and create the .inf file. But you cannot do it on a 5xxx card right now.

The issue I've been having is when I watch videos over HDMI on my TV the audio cuts in and out every few seconds. Sometimes it randomly doesn't do that but if its not doing that then there's a sort of popping static in the background while the normal audio plays over it.

This only occurs during video playback. I can play games, listen to music, or basically do anything else and none of this happens. Lastly if I use VLC none of this this happens in fact if I disable ffdshow's video and use DXVA with Media Player Classic all the issues go away. This all only happens with the HDMI audio, regular audio through speakers or headphones has no issues. this leads me to believe there's some type of conflict with the ATI card and ffdshow.

system specs are
Q9550 Core 2 Quad processor
3GBs of RAM
ATI HD5770 GPU
32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS
Realtek latest HD Audio drivers (2.39 i believe) and the ATI HDMI audio drivers on their page.

it seems as if the PC should be powerful enough to handle things without requiring DXVA. anybody have any idea why it can't?

Can you comment on your config for trying to find a comon trunk as it doesn't seem to be the case for everyone...
Mine is:

cat 9.12 hotfix with or without tulli's latest pio override
with or without latest realtek driver (the result is the same)

+is not present with mpchc dxva

I think its drivers. I'm trying to come up with a way to word an email to send it to ATI. I like my card and I won't get rid of it but this issue is disappointing. maybe they can fix this if it isn't some type of hardware limitation.

you and I have different cards in the same series and we're both having this problem. Snickerers has a different card in the same family with the 5850 and the problem is still there. I also know of another person who has a 5770 and has the same issue so this isn't some type of isolated thing different people across different HD5XXX cards are having this issue.

I think you'r right...
But I wanted to be sure about maybe the same avr or maybe the same version of win7 (32 versus 64bits) mine is 32
If everybody with the problem is on win7 32bit I could try a reinstall in win7 64 in a couple of days...

Mine is:
XFX 5850
Intel X25-M G2 SSD for system drive
i5 750 with Gigabyte P55-UD3R
Onkyo RC180
Win 7 x64
tried 9.12, 9.11, and 9.12 hotfix, all have the problem
ATI hdmi driver and Realtek
I'm using shark007's codecs and various versions of ffdshow

I've also had a problem with passing Dolby Digital in Live TV and recordings. It either doesn't send the signal or just repeats the same one second of audio until I get the video error screen. Sometimes I can stop playing and resume and it fixes itself, but when that doesn't work I have to manually uninstall the hdmi driver and reinstall it to get it working again.

P.S. The 5850 is the only sound device I have enabled now.

I have a dual boot. The problem is existent in Windows XP 32 bit though it seemed to be slightly less prevalent. I watched a few shows on there and had no issues at first but the issue randomly came up and didn't go away.

I don't think it has anything to do with your OS.

It applies to HDAV1.3 cards as well but, frankly, it's surprising that the Pioneers have this issue with DTS MA bitstreaming with ffdshow on the Xonar too. I have no clue of what's going on there.

In fact, AFAIK Pioneer AVRs reportedly bitstream fine on PDVD9 and WinDVD10 without EDID override, so the problem/bug is ffdshow's exclusively & strangely enough, only for Pioneer AVRs???

I will do an experiment now. Will uninstall the EDID Override I use to bitstream PDVD9 with my Denon and see if WinDVD2010 works ...

So finally gonna restore to where i was before.

I think Xmas vacation has already begun for Ati guys but not for EDID stuff

While PDVD9 can work even Realtek 239 is loaded over 9.12 hotfix.

OK, guys, this is what I got (Win7 x64, Sapphire 5770, 9.12 Hotfix, Realtek 2.39, Denon 988).
  • EDID Override is ONLY required for bitstreaming on PDVD9. This is because of PAP surely.

  • Predictably , WinDVD2010 and MPC-HC bitstream DTS MA anyway. I got terrible audio drops with MPC-HC playing Quantum of Solace DTS MA but not at all with X-Men Last Stand . Tried TrueHD, no issues. Using Default DS audio renderer.

So, I guess we may safely conclude that WinDVD2010 just works, no matter what, and it's right now the way to go to safely bitstream on the ATIs. It requires NO EDID override at all on my setup, and this seems to be the case with Pioneer AVRs too.

As for ffdshow DTS MA bitstreaming seems to be still buggy somehow, as I got one BD playing fine & the other not. IMO the Pioneer issue is then related to this.

Pioneer ffdshow beta testers should hopefully solve this with Albain on the "ffdshow tryout project : HD audio discussion" thread at doom9.

Cheers.

You should give the EDID to tulli; just use your ex-4*** cards.

Well, Rica, after last tests, and unless there're HDMI handshake issues, there should be NO need to override the EDID for Pioneers. AFAIK they already bitstream fine with PDVD9, right?

No, the problem with DTS-MA is exclusive to the ffdshow beta and it's a bug IMO, so it should be better worked out on the ffdshow/hd audio doom9 thread.

I have a 4870 X2 with a Pioneer SC05 with no issues at all - I am not bit streaming if you that is what you are getting at thought.. The RealTek driver fixed an issue with switching from one input to another and losing connection

I want to know if these drivers are REALLY any newer than either the regular 9.12 or 9.12 hotfix.

Seems nothing has changed comparing with hotfix results; without tulli's override on Denon 1910 (just 12/17 drvers without Realtek 239 on Seven/64:

Anybody may confirm ffdshow doesn't work with THD on Xonar too without using tulli's override on any Denon? (just with 12/17 drivers or hotfix)

@tulli

So you know how I've been fighting handshaking issues with my 606 for the past few weeks? It's not limited to the 5870 anymore. It would seem the 606 has a serious flaw and after about 12-14 months (seems I've been lucky I guess) the HDMI daughter board starts to fail. ARGH! Given the absolute HORROR stories I've been hearing about getting them repaired, and the fact that I refuse to be without a receiver for any length of time, it's possible I'm about to go receiver shopping this week. Oh yey. I had hopes of getting a digital camera but um, yea. I'll most likely be looking at Yamaha or Denon. I'm so NOT amused. Once I get the new receiver set up, I'll probably then fight the good fight with Onkyo to see if I can get the 606 fixed and put it in the bedroom for the 4850. hahahaha. In any case, the 606 is not making me happy right now at ALL. The sad part is I REALLY like this receiver. A lot!

It's the exact same version number as the 11/24 driver from the hotfix.

One question:

Is there a way to speed up the time it takes for the receiver/ATI-card to lock on to the bitstream audio (either Dolby Digital/DTS or HD-audio codecs)?

With my Pioneer BDP-51FD my receiver locks on instantly in each scene giving output immediatly, but for the ATI 5750-card in my HTPC it seesm like it needs to initialize the sound for each time the audio stops or switches. Like when I am hitting pause in blu-ray or DVD (using PowerDVD for BD and WMP12 for everything else).

Now I get a 2-5 second delay before sound is coming when using bitstream, I wan't it to be like my standalone player.
Is there a way to do this?

My receiver is Yamaha RX-V3900 but I doubt it is the problem as it has behaved flawlessly when connected to other standalone players. It's not that my 5750 is not working great today, but there is room for improvement.

Depending on what I get for a new receiver, I'll be needing one of those overrides myself. I'm TEMPTED to maybe got with a 607 as I really do like the Onkyos, but, do I dare trust them again? I don't know. The only Denon's I could find in my price range locally are all 5.1 which I don't want.

Sorry to hear that, Samuri. I'm quite happy with my still "Made in Japan" Denon (current Denons aren't) so I expect it to last a little longer than that . It works wonderfully with the 5770 especially, with no handshake problems at all. It's also connected to a secondary HTPC with a 4670 with which it works fine too. Guess I'm lucky! (Oh well, there's the EDID override working great of course!)

Anyway, I would not dare to recommend you one, but if you could grab an older model with a MSRP ~$1K (this is what I did of course ... got my 2 years old model new for $599 free shipping) you'd certainly reduce the risk of being ripped off by getting one of those new cheap/full-of-features AVRs for ~$500.

Just my .02.
