First off, I'm using Windows 7 Pro 32bit, with an ATI 4550 hooked up to an Onkyo SR-606 via HDMI for audio and video.
Basically, for TMT2 to properly transmit the decoded audio signal from the high def formats in blu-ray and HD-DVD I have to set both the HDMI audio device and the speaker output on TMT2 as 5.1. This works beautifully and transmits the correctly decoded Multi Channel PCM signal to the receiver. The problem comes when playing a stereo source such as music. Since the HDMI audio device is set to 5.1, when playing a stereo source the computer still sends a 5.1 multi channel PCM signal to the receiver but with audio just in the L and R and LFE channel while the others are blank. This becomes a problem because by sending the signal this way the receiver does some funky processing that makes music not sound as good compared to setting the HDMI audio device to 2.1 and playing the same file.
My goal is to find a solution where the computer will send a multi channel PCM signal when appropriate and a stereo signal when appropriate meaning if I'm playing a Blu-Ray it should send a 5.1 Multi Channel PCM signal and I'm playing a music file it should send a stereo PCM signal. I have tried to achieve this using re-clock but I have no idea how to set it up and documentation on it is very scarce.
Any recommendations or solutions would be greatly appreciated
