I'm running the 8.69 drivers with only CCC no Avivo or drag & drop. I was getting horizontal line corruption with both drivers, since then I have a solid picture. I've seen this before with ATi and would think after 5/7 years they would have that issue resolved by now. And it seems they addressed line corruption in the 10.1 hot fix but I'm not going there because I got my system running/looking better than it ever did since i put this thing together. Ran Acronis to backup an image of a perfectly working PC.

I also fixed the HD DVD playback issue I was having with LG's PDVD OEM version that came on the disc. Updating the player to 4407 fixed the playback issue and loaded the HDMI driver, but the reason I was using the previous version was because 4407 auto launches the image and there is nothing I can do to stop this. If anyone has the fix for this for 4407 I'd really appreciate it.

Edit: Forgot about the msconfig now I own 4407!

Hey Tulli,

After I get a EDID capture of both the display as well as the AVR, what is the next step in creating the inf file?

Just create both .inf files from within Moninfo in the way explained in my post.

Now, as all you want is a custom mod for your display device & AVR, right?, after capturing the EDIDs you can just copy and paste them here. I'll take a look at them and do to the mod (unless you want to do it yourself ...)

EDID Overrides (capture, install/uninstall, troubleshooting)

Yeah, all i want is for bitstreaming to work. I was using your denon_mod.inf but I was getting some handshaking issue with it.

Here's your mod. If it works fine I'll add it to the EDID Override DB if you don't mind.

Hi Tulli,

Would you be able to generate an EDID override for my Samsung Plasma and Onkyo receiver?

I'm getting a screen flicker/flutter in 7 MCE (x64) with a Sapphire 5670 (using 8.70RC2) and an HK 354 that makes is almost unwatchable. If I connect the 5670 directly to the LCD, I don't have the problem. I assume this is an EDID issue? I tried a modified HK 254 file located here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post17918309

and it appears to not make a difference. Is this an EDID issue? If so, can I get a modified file from the attached?

As a point of reference, I didn't have this issue with an Nvidia 9400 GT and a HDAV. I did have several other issues that I'm glad are gone with the 5670.

Sounds more like a handshake problem. Does it only happen with MC, not with other players, or even when you're not playing video at all?

Also what resolution/refresh rate are you running?

Hi Tulli,

Would you be so kind, to generate an EDID override for my Samsung LCD and Onkyo receiver? Sometimes I'm getting a screen/sound stutter in 7 MCE (x64) with a HIS 5670.

Seems, that there will pop up a new problem with 5570:
click

This is also confirmed by a huge german review site. ATI, this is really funny, nut to have VA with a Redwood

You can have VA on both the 5450 and 5570 if you don't enable "enforce smooth video playback" which in itself it's a dubious setting.

BTW, it seems that the disabling of VA, at least on the 5570, when enabling "enforce smooth..." is most probably a bug in the drivers.

I'm currently running at 60hz. I've tried dropping it to 24hz and back to 59hz, but it reports 60. It doesn't happen in MPC-HC at either 24 or 60hz.

AFAIK EDID can't help with handshake issues, it just helps with telling the driver which video/audio formats are accepted by the TV/receiver. Handshake issues are usually connection loss or maybe corruption.

In any case, your problem doesn't seem like handshake since it only happens in MC. Are you using external codecs, and does it happen with all content (which formats?). Also, does it happen both in full screen and in window mode?

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post17918309

and it appears to not make a difference. Is this an EDID issue? If so, can I get a modified file from the attached?

As a point of reference, I didn't have this issue with an Nvidia 9400 GT and a HDAV. I did have several other issues that I'm glad are gone with the 5670.
That HK354 EDID is really a MESS!:

Base Block:
  • Different Color Characteritics.
  • NO Established Timings (vs. Sharp's)
  • NO Standard Timings (vs. Sharp's)
  • Different Detailed Descriptors
  • Different Monitor Range Limits Descriptor

Extension Block:
  • 2 Audio Blocks (which of course the ATI driver can't parse)
  • NO Detailed Descriptors

So I practically had to rebuild the EDID from the Sharp Aquos EDID + Audio descriptor from Onkyo 906.

Will it work? If it does, will you please post the exact Sharp Aquos model to add it to the DB.

If it doesn't your best bet is a a Gefen HDMI Detective Plus.

In any case, your problem doesn't seem like handshake since it only happens in MC. Are you using external codecs, and does it happen with all content (which formats?). Also, does it happen both in full screen and in window mode?

It happens only when watching live TV. Both in Full Screen and Windowed. I'll need to check on external codecs tonight - I haven't purposefully loaded any. I assume the best way to check this is by dropping a wtv file into graph edit?

Because with the 5450 "enforce smooth..." disabled less settings than on the 5570, which is almost as powerful as a 5670, and also cards like the 4670 don't have any problem doing VA with other post-processing enabled.

No, don't load codecs at least until you've fixed this, that's why I was asking, to rule that out.

So it happens on live TV but not on Recorded TV? Do you have any post-processing options enabled in the AVIVO section in CCC, like dynamic contrast or anything else? Does it happen with 1080i channels as well as 720p channels?

Also, can you describe this flickering more elaborately?

I'm embarrassed to say that when I re-plugged in the HDMI cable from the AVR to the card it seated differently than before for a more positive connection. I've been watching picture perfect TV for 3 hours now.

Andy O and Tulli, thanks for the help.

On the 5670, RGB FULL is broken, it outputs the same levels as RGB Limited does.

I've tried all available drivers:
  • ati_win7_vista_catalyst10.1_hotfix_8.69.3.1rc1_feb2
  • ATI_8.70_RC2_Vista_Win7_Jan14
  • Catalyst_9.12_Hotfix_Win7_Vista_8.682.2RC1_Dec15 *I don't think these worked at all*
  • ATI_RedwoodXT_8.69_RC3_VistaWin7_Dec16

I've made do with using YCBCR 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 which give me the same levels RGB FULL did. It shouldn't make too huge a difference, only that I used to use RGB Full previously on my HD3200 without issues.

Oh and a warning with ati_win7_vista_catalyst10.1_hotfix_8.69.3.1rc1_feb2, it seems I can only open the CCC options once, soon as I close it and try to open it again it won't open.

That's not the option to expand video. Try this, leave it on Full RGB, then go to the AVIVO section of CCC and on the Advanced Color tab, put a check on the Dynamic Range option. Then you can switch between 0-255 and 16-235.

By the way, regarding the pixel format options. Many TVs (mine does) have automatic HDMI inputs, so when they detect a "limited" RGB they will compensate. I suspect that's what's happening in your case. The fact that you don't see a difference with the YCC options means that your TV does switch inputs automatically. If it didn't you'd see screwed colors with YCC. In any case, you're likely better off with RGB Full so as not to lose the PC levels/color format.

My TV doesn't automatically switch between levels, I do it manually (For RGB, I suspect for YCC it DOES to it automaticially.) I can tell straight away from looking at the desktop that RGB full and limited are the same. I'm also comparing it to my HD3200 which is using the exact same setup, it's definitely not switching when I change from Full/Limited, no doubt about it.

On the HD3200, when I used RGB Full, I had my Samsung set on NORMAL Black Levels, with LIMITED, I had it on LOW.

Some more annoyances with the 5670, I was getting a black screen/complete crash quite often, with the ati_win7_vista_catalyst10.1_hotfix_8.69.3.1rc1_feb2 it seems to have gone, though during testing with a DVD and TMT3, when I closed TMT3, I quite literially got a semi-crash and a full screen of SNOW, I **** you not! It was like as if I was on analogue TV without the antenna plugged it. A few seconds later the image came back though.

This 5670 is real dodgy :/ (I'm yet to get smooth BR playerback, something my HD3200 was doing fine.)

So did the AVIVO setting of 0-255 work?

Anyway, just leave Pixel Format on Full RGB (full and limited do make a difference on my Pioneer KRP-500 but I have to override auto switching of input mode. Not all TVs give you that option, mine has very obscure settings.

The desktop expansion and video expansion are not the same. The video one is only applied to the video by the decoder or renderer. The desktop should ideally be on Full because that's the color range of the PC. That's what the Pixel Format option does. You just need the video to be expanded to the same levels, and that's what the DR setting in the AVIVO section does.

With previous cards than the 5000 series, that DR setting on AVIVO didn't exist.
