Tulli, I'm back. Well, the fix gives me TrueHD bitstreaming. But...it breaks DTS-HD bitstreaming. I uninstalled the fix and DTS-HD bitstreaming returned.

This is like a can of worms. What's next?

Try to have a clean install of both ATI driver and the overrode. For ATI drivers uninstall and clean old traces with Drivercleaner.net or Driversweeper. For the override follow section 5 in 1st. post to delete/uninstall all hidden leftovers in the registry.

^^^Tulli, I will try that tomorrow. FWIW, before I installed the new 5450 this afternoon, I did clean everything out with Drivesweeper (to get ride of the Realtek HDMI driver), and when I uninstalled the EDID each time, I went through the check list in the first post and found nothing after the reboot. The only thing I did after installing the new card was to upgrade the drivers to 10.2. But I did that before doing the EDID fix.

I will start from scratch tomorrow and see what gives. Thanks.

EDIT: My OCD made me work on this tonight , and this is what I've discovered, after uninstalling everything and cleaning up with Drivesweeper, etc.:

1) With CCC 8.6 - HDMI audio 5.xx (on the install disc with the 5450), I have DTS-HD only (this is both with and without the EDID override).
2) With CCC 10.2 - HDMI audio 6.xx, I have DTS-HD only without the EDID override.
3) With CCC 10.2, I have no DTS-HD, but I do have TrueHD with the EDID override.

Maybe you'll know what to make of this, I surely don't. The only thing left to try is to clean everything out again and go with CCC 9.11, but I need to go to sleep now...

Not a stupid question Latest Moninfo is installed and i am using a ATI 4600 graphics card.

Monitor Asset Manager worked before i installed the edid override. But now it shows only the registry values. I can't delete the registry values except a binary string named "EDID" located at HKLM\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Enum\\DISPLAY\\"HardwareID"\\xxxUIDxxx\\Device Parameters

When i delete this string then MonInfo will show only the samples and no registry or realtime entry. But after reboot the registry values appears again.

4 possibilities come to mind: (1) you do not have the program installed correctly, (2) you do not have administrative privileges, (3) you do not have a DDC/PnP connection to your display, and/or (4) your display no longer holds a valid EDID.

To diagnose the problem, download and install softMCCS from here, then "run as administrator", then save and post the diagnostic log (Ctrl+S).

No, sorry, same story.: override = DTS-HD/yes, TrueHD/no (I'm using the driver that came with the card = 8.6, dated 10/1/09). If the DTS-HD part of the override was wrong before, wouldn't I have been seeing no DTS-HD bitstreaming then (even at version 8.6)? In other words, it seems as if the DTS-HD bitstreaming gets broken if I update the ATI drivers (although, updating the drivers gives me TrueHD with the override).

My head hurts.

Make sure that previous override is in fact uninstalled (follow section 5 in first post). It really should work.

Hi Tulli,

yes, i know. I made each step as described in the section 5 of your first post. All hidden (greyed out) monitors were uninstalled. I had also uninstalled the two active monitors (TV and touchscreen).

But after a reboot, they appear again (not the greyed out) and the registry-entries are back. It's like my wife....i can say what i want...but she does what she wants to do.

That's what I have done. And it doesn't work (at least with ATI driver version 8.6/HDMI audio 5.0).

Well, after reboot you should have as many GenericPnP monitor devices as connected. Also, the EDID content (base block, 128-bytes) in the registry should correspond to your display(s) device(s) EDIDs.

If no override is present in the registry you can just go ahead an capture the EDID(s) with vladd's getEDID. You'll get the active EDIDs currently detected by the ATI driver.

Right, which is just one (before, Show Hidden in DM showed a whole list of Generic and non-Generic ones, which I deleted -- expect the one active).

It still seems the problem is ATI driver version dependent. The original fix file (the one you said was faulty) only broke DTS-HD bitstreaming when I upgraded to the newest ATI drivers (and that first fix file did give me TrueHD then). Wouldn't it also have broken DTS-HD when I was using the older ATI drivers (it didn't, but I had no TrueHD)?

The only thing left to try is to use your new file with the latest ATI drivers. But I just fear it will be the same thing all over again.

The last EDID override will enable DTS-HD for any sample rate, whereas the previous one only did for up to 96khz, which is right BTW by the DTS HD standard whitepaper. So any issue will not be EDID related but driver related.

OK, I'll update to the newest drivers and see what happens.

BTW, I ran GetEDID with no override, and then with override. I get the same EDID name for both: DENON-AVAMP.

Is this right?

That's the "Monitor Descriptor" in the DENON EDID. With no override installed the EDID returned by GetEDID is in fact the same as the real-time.

You can edit the .inf file if you want and change the line

PRODUCTID="DENON-AVAMP (EDID Override)"

into whatever description you like. I for instance have it changed to

PRODUCTID="AVR 988 (EDID Override)"

This is a very convenient way to check quickly that the override is installed.

Well, hot damn! Updated to the latest ATI drivers (video 8.7, audio 6.5) and now have both DTS-HD and TrueHD.

Thanks for all your help, Tulli, much appreciated!

Hi Tulli,
As suggested earlier by you i reformatted the harddrive and reinstalled windows 7, ATI 10.2 and power dvd ultra. I have Powercooler ATI 5450 HD card connected via HDMI
when i try to open the ts file that has DTS-HD (I don;t have bluray drive yet) and go to powerdvd settings i don;t see the third option for hdmi passthru.
Could you please suggest me the possible cause or if i am missing anything. Do I need a override?

You can ONLY bitstream in PDVD when you are using a disc (either physical or mounted ISO). It will not bitstream a file.

Been breaking my head for the last 3 days trying to figure out the problems with my setup. Pioneer VSX-91TXH, Mitsubishi HC1600, using ffdshow tryouts with my ATI 5670. I am able to play TrueHD perfectly either using TMT 3 with .170 or ffdshow with MPC-HC. But DTS-MA is being a royal PITA. After much reading, came across a few posts here on AVS that suggested that there might be a potential problem with Pioneer AVR's and ffdshow with DTS-MA.

@Tulli - I came across one of your posts where you had posted and EDID override for a Pioneer receiver, albeit another model. Can I use the same override or does it have to be customized to my particular model number.

Thanks for all your hard work into this issue.

BPP.

Pioneers don't need an override to bitstream but sure, no problem using that mod.

FWIW only versions of ffdshow that work 100% for me are Albain's own builds from sourceforge.net.

That's exactly what I thought when I got my ATI card. But for some odd reason I could not get DTS-MA to play it right. Is there any particular version of ffdshow that you would recommend?

Thanks

3251 (x32) and 3250 (x64) builds by Albain work best for me. All other versions give me issues.

The Onkyo EDID is fine, so no need to override to bitstream.

OTH you'll only get the third option in PDVD9 while the BD is playing back (right-click->audio settings->etc...).
