I only had to mod the Philips EDID as both extended blocks are the same. BTW there's no need of an EDID override to bistream since Cat. 10.4 but I attach the mod anyway if yours were video issues.

Hi
I'm having hard time trying to bitstream hd audio through ati 5770 to my avr. Can You please help me ? My Tv is philips pfl425604h and my avr is onkyo ht-r538. Oh and btw I have my gpu connected to avr and then avr to tv is it good? I read in the tv manual that I should always connect sound to avr through the tv.

That EDID is only 128-byte. Anyway, definitely no need of an EDID override to bitstream since Cat 10.4. So far I've only seen one AVR (a Samsung model) with a wrong EDID that needed an override to bitstream. But Onkyos are fine.

Your connection is OK. Make sure the Onkyo HDMI is set to no TV audio passthrough.

Thanks Tulli. HDMI is already set to no TV audio passthrough. I've read a thread somewhere on this forum where someone needed to use an override although he had cat 10.6 installed. Maybe it is so in my case as well? In mpc hc I get no sound even though ffdshow indicates that it's bitstreaming, and in tmt3 I only get pcm no matter what. In powerdvd 10 I only get Dolby Digital instead of true hd and dts instead of dts hd. Well, I have no idea what to do now.

There's seems to be a driver problem. You need to check:

1. Latest version of Moninfo.
2. Latest version of ATI driver.
3. if UAC is activated or your local user has no admin rights then run Moninfo as admin.

You can also try Vladd's getEDID (see first post) to get both EDIDs.

I have the newest cat 10.7 and moninfo 2.52.0.857. Also UAC is deactivated and I tried running moninfo as admin. Here's what I got from get EDID.

I returned the ATI HD 5670, used my nvidia 9400. Nvidia driver let me choose an hd resolution in the the display properties. Got the Xonar slim, Total Media Theater was able to bitstream to the Onkyo. Thank you Tulli for you help.

Hello Please pardon the newbie in me. I have a hd65 and and Harmon Kardon avr254 receiver. Along with an ati 5400. I cannot get it to display anything but multi channel pcm. I have the hdmi cable out of pc going directly into the avr 254 and get a picture on the screen . If I plug the projector into the back of the pc it will not ever find a signal.. All I am looking for is the proper audio display. Thanks for any thing you can provide me.

Need some help. I have an ATI 5570 and Onkyo 606 AVR and am running Catalyst 10.7 64 bit on a Win 7 x64. HDTV is a Samsung LNT4671F. Even with an HDMI Detective Plus device, after my AVR and TV have been off for an extended period of time, when I power them back on, there's no video and AVR reads NO SIGNAL. I have no issues bitstreaming dts-HD or TrueHD at all... just maintaining a video signal. I've since placed an HD tuner in this machine... it runs fine, only I am constantly having to reboot it to restore the video the the AVR->TV. Have placed the HDMI detective between the PC and AVR as well as removed it from the equation. Not sure what to do and I'd hate to swap out my ATI card and lose HD audio for an nVidia card... am trying to exhaust all efforts before going that route. Only now that this same PC is serving as my DVR w/ TV tuner, I want to be able to switch over to the PC and have active video with no waiting. Anyone have any tricks? Seriously makes me never want to buy ATI again.

Problem is the Onkyo 606, most probably. This AVR is known to begin failing after a year or so and one specific symptom is precisely HDMI handshaking.

This is one of many cases reported in this forum, but take a look at the dedicated thread on the AVR/AVP section.

In sum, either repair it or get a new AVR.

128-byte captures so they're useless. But I want to make the point clear: there's absolutely NO need of an EDID override for HD audio bitstreaming since 10.4.

Make sure that the right ATI HDMI driver is actually installed (7.11.0.7706). Also check that your AVR HDMI is not set to passthrough the TV audio. Try AnyDVDHD. Check your software player setup. Check cables, etc, etc. etc ...

I know, I was excited when I read that several months ago. I have TrueHD and HDDTS listed in the audio control panel, but I can't get PowerDVD or TMT (TMC or what ever it is) to regiznize the option for HD audio. I'll try AnyDVDHD I guess?

thanx

Captures are still 128-bytes. Use later monifo version or run it as admin if you're not logging in as an administrator user or have UAC activated.

Also, are you trying to set PDVD (9 or 10) to "Non-decoded high definition audio to external device" (3rd. option) during playback?

I just downloaded the monino.. I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong. You need the two long lines (that's how I know it is 256)?

Yes I have PDVD9 (updated) and tring to get the 3rd audio option.

Hi Tulli,

Quick question. I am re-setting up my HTPC (ATi HD5670) and it is connected to my Denon AVR-789 (which is essentially an AVR-1909). Installed latest catalyst drivers today and installed PDVD9 build 2320.

First title I tried was a DTS-HD MA title, and the high definition option appeared in PDVD immediately. Select it, and the receiver shows DTS-HD MA. Beautiful.

Now when switching to a TrueHD title. The high definition audio option in PDVD is there, but when selected, the receiver still shows "Dolby Digital". Is this a known problem?

I was under the impression that since Catalyst 10.4 I wouldnt need the EDID override? Is this correct?

Many thanks

That's correct. No need of an EDID override since 10.4 for both DTS HD and TrueHD. Do a clean install by first removing both the ATI graphic driver with Drivercleaner or Driversweeper, AND greyed out monitor drivers (leftovers ... see instructions on 1st. post on uninstalling section).

hmm, extension flag is 0 so that Optoma definitely does not have an extension block (sorry about that, I should have checked before). But worse, I see no 16:9 or HD available resolution. Just googled and according to this site the projector has these specs:

Specifications. 2300 ANSI lumens, 2000:1 contrast, native 4:3 full-frame 1024x768 XGA DLP chip with a 2x rotation speed, 5-segment color wheel.

So this is your issue, as no HD resolution means NO HD audio (HDMI 1.3a).

Now, there's a secondary video descriptor with 1080i timings, so I've put it first so that it gets precedence and added the extension block of the Onkyo 705. Maybe it works.

It it doesn't work your best bet is a Gefen Detective Plus connected to the Onkyo -> ATI HDMI chain, with the Optoma connected to the other HDMI ATI port (you'll need a native ATI DVI-HDMI adapter). The Gefen would be a "dummy' HD video device of course.

The Asus HDAV1.3 would be another choice (see tusharj posts in previous pages for details).

Tulli,

Sorry maybe you misunderstood my post. I am starting from scratch with fresh install of windows. EDID is not currently installed. All that has been installed is ATi driver and I'm not getting any TrueHD

Ouch! Doesn't make sense then. Have you tried with different TrueHD blu-rays?

Of course an EDID override wouldn't hurt. I actually use one to deal with HDMI handshaking issues but can bitstream just fine without it over my DENON 988.

IF needed try one from the list on 1st post with display device most similar to yours. If you can't find one just post your display device EDID (I have the 789 EDID in my DB) and I'll do the mod.

thanx... that puts me in the right direction. I have the PC set to 720p because that's the only way to get sound from the card and the projector adjusts to that format. The projector supports HD 720P and 1080i, but is not native HD. It's 1024x768 native, and that is what is messing things up. That really helps a ton, and know I know what the problem is and what to do about it. This whole time I though it was software.

thank you again!!! :-)

Hi Tulli,

Well it seems I can't get live TV to work in WMC without the Realtek HDMI drivers installed, and these Realtek drivers seem to undo the good work of the ATI drivers in the handshake department. What a vicious circle! Haha.

So looks like I will need an override. If you can bang one up for me that would be great. Components are Denon AVR-789 and Panasonic TH-42PZ800A

Many thanks mate.
